Considering a 991S....

Currently have a 997S.
I drove a PDK 991S at the time of launch and didnt like it. I thought it was too refined at the time (no offense to anyone).
I drove a three pedal 991 C2S and C4S yesterday and loved them. Why the change of heart? I have no idea.
Beyond passion and price (997S traded + $70k outta pocket), what's the criteria by which you would make the decision to move from a 997S to a 991S?

I can't really justify my response as I did not come from a 997 to a 991. But I think that objectively it is a bit better, in measurable and sensed ways- in the dimensions I care about. The 991 is a bit faster, handles a bit better, is a bit more comfortable, gets a bit better mileage, weighs a bit less, looks a bit more modern, (ok ok is a bit longer). Also confess- I used to love the quirky liveliness of 911s, but have moved on and am enjoying it more than ever, PSE and PDK and all.

I went through the same process. The 991 is a little better in most every category, but less raw and quirky.
But I feel that a lateral move makes no sense, as the 997.2 and 991 are close enough (different though if 997.1), that it's not worth the $70K trade-up. UNLESS you get something different. I went from a 997.2 coupe to a 991 cab-- there's my excuse.
I wanted a cab! For you, I wouldnt trade in yours for an S, wait for the gt3.

Had they had a black three pedal coupe and a $60k delta, there would not have been a need for this thread. Fortunately or not, it was a red three pedal coupe and a $73k delta

The new GT3 will be PDK only. Deal killer for me. Its the first sign of me being the grumpy old man reminiscing about the good old 3-pedal'ers

Hi all, I'm new to this forum-1st post. I really like the vibe and enthusiasm here! Looks like we're all Porsche fanatics! I ordered my 991 C4S 1/21/13 It was built 3/8/13 It is now on the "Jinsei Maru" ship and should land at the port in San Diego April 14th. Hoping to get it at the dealership in SLC by the end of April.
I've always been a pure 3 pedal guy. I drove the 991s 7 speed and S PDK back to back. I was amazed at how much fun the PDK was to drive. Much to my surprise I was an immediate convert! (Sad but true!) The motor is so powerful I felt I was constantly shifting in the 7 speed. Reminded me of the early Turbos i.e.. 996 Turbo you couldn't shift fast enough. Needless to say mine has been ordered C4S with the PDK. Black on Black, Black Bi-Zenon headlights, 20" Carrera Classic wheels, Full leather, 18 way power sport seats, Sport Steering with Paddles, Sport Chrono, wheel spacers, PDCC, Sport Exhaust, Aluminum Pedals.
I've always bought used and let the original owner suffer the big depreciation til now! Financially, maybe not the smartest move, however, emotionally and fun factor - the best move ever! Unfortunately now I'm going to sell my classic 1997 993 cabriolet! (33,000 miles)

Uh oh. You have early onset PDK grump. But it is just one of the things that seem to make non 991 owners grumpy about the 991. Why take the risk of full grump? You should stay with the 997.1. Pure and simple.

What's more simple and more fun is 991C2S with the power kit... 430 HP with 7 speed manual, Psam, PDCC, SE, etc.
