Question 991 Electric Steering

Has anyone had any issues with their 991 electric steering? Recently, at about 4500 miles, my 2012 Carrera S seems to have some issues which I believe are associated with the steering. The car will be tracking straight as an arrow at 45 miles an hour and then suddenly make a small jerk and then begin to drift, requiring steering correction on a straight road. It is very disconcerting. It seems to happen with no regularity. It will work fine for 100 miles and then happen again. I am driving on none grooved two lane blacktop when it occurs. Has anyone else experienced anything like this. Thanks.

I agree with you in that does not sound normal and you should get it checked out. I have never had that happen in over a year of street and track driving, including speed bumps, potholes, etc.

This almost sounds like something is triggering the PTV system. Does the steering wheel twitch when the car begins to drift?

Definitely get it checked out ASAP. You don't want the car deciding to slam on one of the rear brakes because it thinks the yaw sensor and steering angle are mismatched. I've heard of this happening to Corvette drivers and the results are scary.

Yes, there is a twitch in the steering wheel. I am going into the dealership to have it checked out.

Are your tires and rims stock? I've read about instances where a mismatched tire can cause those symptoms.

I just had one rear tire replaced at 4500 miles. I wonder if that could be the problem?

I think it's possible that PSM or perhaps PTV is being intermittently fooled by the slightly different diameters of your new and existing rear tires. FWIW, Posche says that tires on the same axle should only be replaced in pairs.....

The right rear tire replaced at 4500 miles by the dealership was a 235. They should have installed a 230.
It could have had an ugly outcome. Thankfully all is now resolved.

Not sure what you mean.
