I usually lurk around the 997 threads but sometimes I peek here... daydreaming an S w/ PDK, PASM, sports aero.... never thought it will be close to reality when I brought my wife @ one of the bay area's Porsche dealership.

Did I mention that I usually hang around the 997s? Because my plan earlier was to check a CPO 2010 997.2... Until the wife saw the 991s and instantly fell in love at first sight. No matter how I tried to rationalize and show the practicality of getting an older model. She always insist to get the 991 and teases me to get what I really want. Here's what they offer and I salute the guy for leveling with a noobie and been very accommodating compared to the other dealers we visited:

I hope you guys can help me with some of my questions and kindly bear with me

1. It's brand new for my standards, should I still opt for a PPI?
2. Initially I wanted the 2010 997.2 and I prefer CPO. But with the 2012 991S should I still get a CPO? I'm thinking it's fairly new and I still have 3 years on its original warranty.
3. I did a quick price check on 991S and lowest I seen was $92K w/ CPO but lesser options. Is $97K already a good price?

I would push for a CPO. I have seen other cars with similar mileage that were CPO'd. Having another 50k and 2 years is something you will not regret having. PPI should be performed as well but if they are going to cpo the car it is frankly irrelevant as the CPO process is more thorough than a PPI, which is subject to dealer interpretation. Again this is just what I have grasped. If they refuse to CPO, you should be wary of any paint/body work that has been done, which in turn would materially reduce the cars value. I cannot comment on the fairness of the price but I am sure someone can chime in.

There was an 2012 S optioned to the hilt at ($127K list) Champion in Pompano Beach FLA with 8900 miles. Driven by the service manager and they were asking $95K.

The car you are interested in should be in the low $90's. IMHO you should keep working on the deal. They will take less.

Thanks, they asked me how long will I keep the car then advised its wise to have it CPO. Also asked abt paint metering which they can do do it on the car.

Thanks! For the price insights and try to work it out. But the thing thats holding me off to haggle was the card woth stock list on the top title showing they bought the car $95k from the owner.


Follow-up question and i'm already gathering data how much the 2009 997.2 c2s price fell after 2 years. Or check the readily available data of 2011 997.2s prices to show how much it depreciate d after 2 years.
Mu question was is it worth it to wait of in a year where I really neee to have an extra car? As I have mentioned I was bent to get the 997.2s because I feel the price is already right and still opt for CPO. With the 991 it will be wait a year or 2 of wait for the price to settle down.

13sinned-if the dealer paid $95K for the car-they paid too much. Wholesale on that vehicle is in the mid to high $80'sK. There are others available. Check out the blk/blk at Champion (if it's still available). If not, there are others properly priced.

I've had two cpo cars, a 996 c2 cab and a 997.1 turbo. The cab needed a lot or warranty work, the turbo almost none, but I was glad I had it.

The cpo inspection will not allow significant body work.

The only reason I'm driving a new 991 is the turbo ran out of warranty. My c4s is a much better car than the turbo, especially the mt. It's superb. The biggest disappointment is the sound system - flabby Bose horse$hit. So I put on the loud button and listen to the engine.

97k doesn't seem that unreasonable, as long as it's CPO'd and in perfect condition. Low 24% off seems like a pretty good deal. Low 90's would be surprising. One should hope that depreciation isn't 30% in the first year on a 911. That'd be worse that the Boxsters.

According to porsche the depreciation is 28% after 2 yrs and 24 k miles. You do the math. Don't need to wait because part of the reason you want 991 is because it has new stuff and who knows in a couple of years there some other pretty lady catching your eye.

I have a 997 and am taking my time shopping for a 991. You should get a 991 as there are so many improvements compared to a 997. If this is exactly the car you want then go for it. But, if you don't need/want all the extras you might be able to get a new car. Test drive as many variants of the car as you can and you will zero in on what you want. Enjoy the hunt-it's the best part. Cheers.

I really hate increasing the search area, 'cos I'll know some private seller or even dealer some 2,000 miles away from is selling my car for a great price. i might be pushing it too far, but i might be visiting my aunt in miami sooner this year

thanks for the insight, this will help me alot with my computations. i'm still trying to figure out what will be the typical price next year for the 991. if it will be just $5K difference or it will drop more than 10K.
and being in california doesn't help much either where 911 prices seems to be in the higher end of the spectrum.

thanks, i'm going to test drive the PDK C2S and manual C2 this weekend. i like the option on this car but not that much willing to pay for the extra premium. and i still love to have the sport plus seats and the ducktail

Bottom line 13 sinned is-If you love the car, then get it. If you are happy to pay the price and it feels right...life is short and money is paper.

too good to be true - 'new' 2012 991 C2s with 89.6mi for $91,995... but further research with its VIN... turns out to be 2K miles and not brand new
