It's near impossible to keep that engine below 4200 with the PDK in auto. I tried. Yes, really. The first time I had to overtake a truck (with perhaps 50 miles on the clock) in limo mode (of course) the RPM went past 5000 so quickly I hardly had time to react.

Since then I adopted a "progressive" run in. There is no RPM limit given in the printed manual related to running in and the dealer just said "keep it below 4500" for the first 600 miles". This I stuck to with the occasional short burst above that to perhaps just touching 6000 (accidentally and very short).
Once past 600 miles I allowed the engine to get to progressively higher peak RPM but never kept it at elevated RPM for long (Sport plus never used). At perhaps 1000 miles I allowed red line shifts in sport mode but kept periods of elevated RPM to a minimum to prevent spot heating issues.
Later I allowed "sport plus" for brief periods just to see what it does (it mainly just keeps the RPM high and shifts a bit more violently at higher RPMs).
As the RPM tends to be very low when cruising in Limo mode I made use of the paddle shifters to vary the RPM frequently in the range of 1000-4000 RPM. At the early stages of run in (less than 50 miles on the clock) I tried to get some pressure on the cylinders by frequent power bursts from low speed to help bed in the rings - not exceeding 4500 RPM (not sure if that is really needed with nicasil cylinders).

2000 miles has come and gone and only after this did I try a launch. Nice one that. Keep it light - throw out the passenger and have a nearly empty tank for maximum effect. You can get a peak acceleration of 1.0G. I can pull up to 6G in my plane in all sorts of directions but I can't accelerate like that in my aircraft so the sensation is quite unique for me at this stage. It is somewhat similar to negative G on an aircraft.

I can't tell if the run in was good. It does not seem bad though. Everything seems to be fine and power delivery is good as it should be. No change on the oil level readout since new.

Thanks Rainier.

There has been so much posted on break in elsewhere, no need to open the debate again here. Suffice it to say you gotta do what ever you are happy with especially if you're planning to keep the car.

Absolutely agree with regard to Sport shifting in auto - it red lines so easily! Therefore, throughout break in I used manual PDK shifting whenever I had a chance to push the car in order to control the rpm.

I hit 5000 rpm briefly after about 15 miles . . . and have done so occasionally since. Of course, I just picked my new C4S up yesterday!
