991 manual transmission question
I recently spoke to a Porsche salesman about the 7 speed manual transmission and he said that it was a drive by wire double clutch system like in the PDK.
Any truth to this?

Thanks
So now Porsche doesn't even offer a real manual transmission, with a mechanical single clutch for the traditional folks.
I wonder what the GT3 boys and traditionalists are going to think if Porsche decides to offer the new GT3 only in PDK format.
Ferrari no longer offer a manual, now Porsche may be following suit.

I am manual driver at the core and I tested the new 7MT - nothing is better (in a non-GT car). Well maybe a gated shifter in the Ferrari 599 .. but you get my point. Don't care how its designed, its flawless!

Your salesman is full of ****. The all new 7 speed manual is as traditional as ever. It does share some common parts with the PDK for cost saving but it's still a hydraulic clutch and shifter that you the driver manually move through the cogs.
And a quite nice transmission I might add.

I think you're referring to cables - nearly all modern Porsche manual gearboxes are cable-operated, not electric wires

I have the 7-speed, it is a traditional manual gearbox the way it drives. The blip you refer to, I believe, is from those with the PSE. There is nothing goofy about it the regular 7-speed. I have three manual transmission vehicles, and the 991 is traditional in all operation.

I have a 2012 991S 7MT. It had a clutch failure at 2400 miles, which the dealer replaced under warranty. While the engine was out of the car (ouch!) I got a chance to see it. The clutch is a normal, single pressure plate and friction disk type manual trans clutch that one would typically see on any previous 911. There is nothing related to a double clutch on the 7MT. The 2013 7MT model supposedly automatically blips the throttle upon downshift (computer controlled throttle) which has nothing to do with the clutch mechanism or clutch action (ie no double clutching taking place).
Btw - I love my 7MT, best clutch and tranny combo ever!

i did not like the 7speed m/t at all. this coming from someone who has owned primarily 6speed manual sports cars his entire life..
it feels fake, disconnected... like pdk with a big handle.
