Default Bleached out break calipers

The brake calipers - except of the front panels - of my 991 C2 are completely bleached out and do no longer look black, but grey. Is this normal?

I've never seen anything like that, but my 997 calipers started fading. The dealer repainted then. You might give your dealer a call.

The flat portion with the Porsche logo is definitely a superior finish on these calipers and resisted whatever degraded the rest of them - wonder why Porsche would skimp on the rest of the finish?
Use any caustic wheel cleaners perhaps?
(looks like it's time to paint them properly!)

I did not use any wheel cleaner at all.

That's weird for sure. Granted my car is only about 3 months old with 4500 miles but mine are still completely black. I have only used plain water and/or gentle soap made for carwashing on them, no specific "wheel cleaner" products.

How many miles do you have on the car with the faded calipers?

Those look like you've had some good heat cycles, track use at all?

It is my daily driver (city, countryside with occasional serpentines in the mountains, some motorway, but no track use at all).

This was very common on the early 997 Carreras. Porsche just put a light anodizing except for the outer surface that was painted. Yours does look pretty bad for how new your car is. I do have a friend who got his calipers repainted under warranty on his 06' Carrera. BTW, if they will paint them they usually let you choose the color. On my friends 06', he got his repainted red with white script.

Does the red on the "S" calipers hold up better?

Don't know about the new models (991/981), but all the previous models going all the way back to the 996/986 that have fully painted calipers hold up very well. Even the calipers on my old 02' Carrera, bought by one of my friends, still look glossy even with a lot of track days ans close to 100k miles. The factory red painted calipers on my 997 GT3 still look like new at 23K miles.

My old 996TT had faded front calipers. I cleaned and applied a heat resistant clear coat and they looked new. This was after 70K miles though.

mine looked identical on 997.1 base... my 997.2 and 991 with black base calipers never did it tho. i think it's a manufacturing flaw.. take to dealer.. obviously they'll paint and not replace (too expensive to replace).. they have the logo's and everything.
