Default 991c2s v 997c2s, 997 GTS, 997 GT4S cab

I've moved from a 997c2s (manual) which I loved to a 991c2S (PDK/PDCC) which I love even more.

Recently I've spent some time driving (a few days in each) in a GTS (PDK) and a 4wd GTS cab (PDK).

My impressions are as follows:

THe 997 was my first Porsche. I loved it. Handling great but light front end when cornering at speed was sometimes a bit disconcerting.

The 991 is much more stable, far faster and more fun at all speeds. The engine sound is intoxicating and accelleration brutal especially in sport plus mode. It also looks far more modern than the 997.

As for steering feedback, I prefer the 991 which gives you all the info you need without the 'jiggling' but there is really not that much difference between them. When cornering the 991 is much more precise and planted.

THe 997GTS steering was MUCH livelier that the 997C2S and it was only when finally comparing the GTS to the 991 that I understood what posters were talking about. There is a big difference between a GTS's steering and a 991 but I still prefer the 991. I really liked the GTS but the 991 is better.

THe GTS 4S cab was far slower than the 991, you could really feel the extra weight. The steering was the most lifeless on this car out of the four vehicles. However, the 4wd handing, whilst different, was very entertaining. Soft top fun but no use in the UK and spoils the looks (991 cab looks ok though)

The 991 is an evolution but is still very much a 911. All four were great cars.

Finally, I just switched to winter tires from the 20" Pirellis on the 991 and I've still got over 5mm tread left on all four wheels after 10,000 miles. They are wearing evenly. I never got more than 7000 miles out of a set of Pirelli rears in the past. Is this the PDCC?

Nice write up. I have 10k miles on my 991CS (Sport PASM) and the Pirelli's look halfway gone and the wear is even. Looks like a longer wait for the Michelin SuperSports than I had expected.
