Default 7MT vs 6MT

How about differences noted between the 997 and 991 MT from folks who have owned/driven both?

I had a 997.2S w/6spd stick, and now a 991S w/7spd stick. As I mentioned above, I like the tweak in shifter postioning. I think the 991 is a bit smoother, clutch feels the same. The 7th gear is only for highway stretches and saving fuel. I think the 1st gears in both cars are actually a bit too tall. The 991S has a few more hp, but it fels like a lot more when you get to 3rd and 4th gear, the car pulls with great thrust, it feels much faster.

Go drive one, I really think that the shifter is only one of many improvements. The best is the more direct steering feel and the overall improvement in balance due to the engine postioning in the 991. The car just has the ability to be driven faster. More grins per mile

I've had all 3 transmissions. 997 both manual & PDK. Personally I prefer the manual. The PDK makes the car faster but I just don't care. I find the manual a more rewarding experience. Anyway the manual in my new 991 is vastly superior IMHO. My 997 manual was not smooth going into 2nd gear when cold, no issue with the 991. Also at slow speed such as 10 mph I am able to shift down into 1st easily! My 997 manual did not like to do that at all.

As a final note I also find both the clutch feel and shifter superior to my 997.
