His first points about the old 911 is it's small, has unassisted steering and stacks of feel.

I miss those qualities.

Me too. I owned a few early ones- including a '78 SC that I kept and campaigned for 30 years. But I have to say my 991 provides everything it did in terms of driving enjoyment, just in larger doses.
