John 996 TT Cab

On October 1 I ordered a 991S Cab with a load of options including Power Kit. I was told December production.

Yesterday dealer says production date is January 23. Only thought he has on the delay is because of the Power Kit option (also has Sport Design front and rear spoilers).

Has anyone actually received a 991S with the Power Kit option yet? If so, was there an undue delay?

Problem may be an allocation one also but I don't think so.

I don't have an answer to your question but I was wondering what the cost of the power kit was?

I think it's about $18,000 in the US and about $20,500 in Canada. This is according to the Car configurator for each country. Slightly more if you order PDK also.

I recall the Power Kit being discussed on this board and there not being too many takers based on the price tag (for a mere 40hp).

So in terms of build delays, you may find very few who can share their experiences thus far.

The general consensus seemed to favour aftermarket upgrades to boost HP or opting for the turbo (next year).

I gave thought to the Turbo but it is very expensive to insure in British Columbia. A number of very high performance cars that are 1 to 2 years old are subject to individual insurance application and a named driver policy. One person with a Turbo is $800 per month. No other option to buy out of Province either. My car is going to be a daily driver for 2 - 3 years then retired. I'm expecting insured for business use to be about $2,600 (my BMW 650 Cab is about $2,300 for business use). As well, I'm keeping my much modified 996 TT Cab as well so have the Turbo performance when I really want it.

No GT3 either as I want a Cab. I expect the 991 Turbo Cab to be in the $210k to $225k range depending on options in Canada. More for the "S" if and when available. Don't want to do "upgrades" as warranty might be an issue.

I understand your rationale and was not passing judgment on the Power kit.
And having lived in London, I know what you mean about the absurd insurance costs.

I think your dealer owes you a slightly better explanation for the delay.
But keep in mind that Germany is pretty strict about shutting down the factories for the holiday season..

The build date only changed late yesterday afternoon and after business hours in Toronto (3 hours earlier than Vancouver). I expect that I'll get some better info in next few days.

Considering the insurance issues I would definitely wait for the power kit option.

There is no delay for the Sport design option, my 3 month delay was the glass sunroof. If I want to guess, likely is the power kit. Will try to find out for you.

I ordered a C2S Cabrio with the Power Kit back in September, my build date was last week. I'm still waiting on a final confirmation that the build is complete, the last update I received was it was being painted. I assume they wouldn't start a build without all the parts ready, and that it completed and my dealer just hasn't passed on the good news.

Quite amazingly, NONE of the parts are ready until the exact moment they are needed to go on the car! Even parts brought in by rail are loaded onto and come off the rail cars in the exact same order they will be needed to go onto cars as they come down the assembly line. Robots bring parts to human engine assemblers, and then transport assembled engines to the next station, everything coordinated so the completed engine arrives ready to go into the exact car its assigned to at the exact time that car comes down the line. Not one car sooner, not one car later. Absolutely fascinating!
