Default What is a short journey?

During break in I understand one should avoid short journeys, but what exactly does that mean? Presumably the engine needs to get up to working temperature but how long should it remain there to avoid " damage" during the break in period? Kind of a dumb question but interested in your views on this!

My view has always been, as long as it reaches operating temp before you shut it down. In other words no 1/2 mile trips to the corner store with a cold engine.

I made a similar post and 4-5 miles came up. I think you just need to watch oil temp so that it goes up "enough". I personally set a 10 mile min and tried to stick with it.

Oil temp has to come up and stabilize to burn off water & contaminants,.....this could take 2 minutes in 100 degree heat,....or 15 in very cold weather. Coolant temp means nothing, it's all about the oil temp.
