991S clutch failure

991S clutch failure
I have a 2012 (May build) 991S 7MT with 2400 miles on it. The car started to shudder violently when accelerating moderately about a week ago. I wasn't sure what it was, but it felt like the clutch was slipping-gripping-slipping repeatedly. Following a few of those shudders, the clutch actually slipped a few times. I took the car into the dealer two days later. Upon their investigation, they told me the clutch was "fried"...the friction material looked good and not worn out, but the clutch was behaving as if it was worn out.
I've had 2 track days and never, ever abuse the clutch. No full power starts, no slipping it other than normal first gear take off.
I'm curious if anyone else has experienced clutch issues on their 991 with the new 7M transmission. This could very well be a unique, isolated event.

You should be able to run quarter mile drags every day before breakfast and not trouble the box.

Same thing happened to me on my new 997.1 turbo when they first came out. After about 2,000 miles, it developed a shutter or chatter at low rpm as the clutch was being released. The dealer said they would need the regional manager to sign off on a new clutch since it's a wear item and not normally covered under warranty. It was quickly covered and they discovered a small tolerance issue- a couple thousandths off of the clutch or pressure plate. Any mass produced item has a range of acceptable tolerances and mine was just a little off. Good luck.

What is the dealer going to do about it? That is strange-something similar happened to me last night in bumper to bumper traffic. Might have been tired and not paying attention to my take off. Car is driving awesome otherwise. Love the 7MT Keep us posted.

Update -
The dealer has had the car for two weeks. I stopped by today. They had the engine out and the car pretty much in hundreds of pieces (so it seemed). The clutch friction disk wore all the way through the friction material on the pressure plate side and all the way into the rivets and into the pressure plate face! The flywheel side of the friction disk was in excellent condition (other than being contaminated by debris from the worn side) - it had no wear on it. Very strange indeed. 2450 miles. Not sure what the root cause of this problem was, but clearly the clutch is defective having worn out only on one side.
Will take a few more days to complete the job, hopefully I will get the car back this weekend....with no leaks !

Whoa- the clutch is worn out in 2400 miles? I knew Porsche wanted everyone driving PDK's

I think it was the big red smoothie that caused the problem,....probably left in there at the factory.
:-)
Hope you get it back soon,....has to be a bad or miss-adjusted pressure plate.

The smoothie was mine. The cafe at the dealership is pretty good.
Not sure what the delay was. The Porsche tech was great to speak with - gave me a real sense of confidence in his abilities and skills to do it all right. The service adviser communicates too infrequently with me, so I've had to chase him to get answers. Sounds like they took a few days to get to diagnosing it, then a week to get the parts, then a few more days to put it all back together...
As long as they do it right, I'm ok with it taking a little longer. Don't want any funky problems when I'm at Road America in October
