On 996/7 the mounts were always there for roof racks.

991 does not appear to have them. Are the mounts built in on every car?

Yes they are. Couldn't find them myself so I had ask my dealer...

Just follow the black rubber line (there are two on the roof) from the back to the front (or vice versa ) and you will find one spot at the front and one spot at the back where you can lift the rubber line up. The mounts are under these removable rubber pieces.

Minor clarification -- the trim pieces are more lift up-able than removable. The trim bends up and goes into the rack feet.

Edit: on a non-sun roof car, that is. Perhaps they are removable on sunroof versions?

There are fairly flexible removable rubber sections about 5 inches long on sunroof cars. Mine came with one having a slight bulge and my salesman got a replacement from Germany. The tech who was asked to replace it must have thought I was nuts. I had no idea what it was for. I convinced my self the new one was needed, but it may be the case the tech humored me and removed and replaced the original, pushing it in neatly!

Thanks for all your help.

I did not order the Roof Transport System for my 991S to be delivered this week and was concerned that as I did not see the little rack mount flaps on the demo cars, I wrongfully assumed that the mounts were a special order item.

I can get the rack later when I need it.

i wish i ordered the roof rack system, but then again the car has plenty of room as is for luggage.. i just like the look of it.
