Age and Transmission Choice
There has been a lot of discussion on the virtues of PDK vs MT. I'm wondering if that is a function of age? When I was younger say 30-40 I would have gone for the MT hands down. But now at 61 I did not even consider that option and am very happy with sport mode in PDK. My guess is that Porsche understands its target demographic for the 911 which I suspect is north of 50. Their moves on the new 911 suit me to a "T".

I'm in my mid-thirties and chose to go MT. It was a tough choice between the two (my M3 was a DCT and it was fantastic), but I figured if this might be the last generation of Porsche MT, I didn't want to pass it up.

32 and manual anytime. Even at 60 I'll still want manual unless it won't be available anymore or some injury(bad knee or something) won't allow me to drive manual.

I'm 57 and my wife is 52. We have a manual in our 997.2 4S which is her daily driver, and we're getting a manual in our 991S Cab that arrives in a few weeks which will be my semi daily driver.

I think it come down to experience and cars owned.
For me the desire to try a paddle shift car was the deciding factor as I have had many MT cars..
That and the fact that I'll pass all the MT 991's on the track!!!!

I am 47 and went with the manual for my 991. I know that the PDK is a bit faster, but i like the invovement of a manual. I would recommend anyone stuck between the two to test drive the new PDK and manual. The new manual is much smoother than the manual in my 997.2, and combined with the 400hp, it is a real blast to drive.
I do not use my 911 as a daily driver, but will autocross and track it.
Skinzy - Next time I am in Knoxville I will let you drive my manual car, if you let me in on your AARP discounts for dinner - we can eat early

I think it depends more on personality.
One of my passions is fishing. I could get all the latest electronics, rods, reels, lures, etc. and catch a limit pretty much everytime I go out. However, I prefer to stalk reds in 6" of water, with fly rods and flies I tied myself. It's much more challenging and I catch less fish, but it's also a lot more satisfying.
To me it's about developing the skills required to tie the fly, find the fish, get close enough, present the fly properly, and then land a 10+ lb freight train on a 4lb tippet.
Same with the MT. I could drive a PDK faster, but there would be less skill required and hence a lot less satisfaction. There is something immensely satisfying about executing a perfect heel-toe downshift going into a corner.
I'm 52 BTW.

Mid 40's here, PDK for me. Disclosure (My 991 is manual)
^^Said that, I dont know what kind of skills are needed to drive a manual, here in South America grannys drive manuals. 95% of all cars are manual. No special macho skill is needed.
I suppose that being the opposite case in America where the majority of cars have slush boxes, If you own a manual, it will make you feel "special".

^This^ -- I'm 40 and my 991 is my fourth 911. Got my first at 29. All MT. Couldn't imagine picking up an automatic, though I will admit that I have been very impressed with the advances Porsche has made with PDK.
