Default 991 manual transmission

Can anyone explain how the manual gearbox on the 991 works? How are the clutch and shifter lever connected to the transmission? I have read elsewhere that even with the MT, it is the computers that are actuating gear changes and clutch movements.

it's the exact same trans as pdk but it is manually selected, if you become a member of the site, their is a "info" section that tells all about the trans in detail..

it's not electronic.

Every 2008 C2S I test drove, including the one I bought, shifts the same as my 2006 C2. In each, I had to pause between 1st and 2nd when short shifting to avoid hitting the 2nd gear synchro. Shift at 5 to 7k, and it's smooth as silk.

My question: Is this pause between 1st and 2nd still necessary in the 991 MT when short shifting?

Thanks

Andy

IS THERE A SHORT SHIFT OPTION FOR THE 991? I own a 9974S with the factory short shift option and love it. I have not yet driven a manual 991 and do not know how long the shift throws are. Are they comparable to the short shift on the 997? TIA

I had an OEM short shift kit on my 997S, and my stock 991S shifter feels just about the same throw length wise. I think that it's just about perfect.

I have no need to pause.

the feel of the 991 manual, reminds me of the feel of a new style "mechanical" keyboard. It feels so damn good to operate.

I agree. The 7mt in my 991cs has the best tranny feel of any Porsche I have ever owned.

I had a factory short throw shifter on my 997.1 turbo and the 7mt on my 991 c4s kicks its butt. I even like the rev match in sport plus. I thought I wouldn't, but it's perfect every time and with the loud button in the on position, it's more fun than the turbo - even though it doesn't have the Saturn V thrust.

Just picked up my C4S cab MT. Nothing beats a manual transmission in a sports car.

Thank you everyone for your replies. For me it will definitely be the manual transmission. It is a week-end and recreational vehicle to enjoy on the scenic back roads of Oregon. It will not be used for in town errands or for city traffic. I am afraid I would get "bored" very soon with the PDK. Prefer the driving involvement with the M/T.
