Default Brake Rotor Sizes 991 vs. 997

Are the brake rotor sizes the same for 997 and 991? Just curious. To me it appears (visually) that the front rotors in the 991 may be a bit smaller than those in the 997.

Could it be that the calipers are larger, which would make the rotors <look> smaller? Don't know if this is BS or not but my sales guy told me the calipers were upgraded/larger on the new 991....by the way I just picked up my new 991 SCab this past Friday and many upgrades/improvements over my 2009 SCab. I wanted another manual trans, but none available and didn't want to wait until Oct. for an order to arrive. The PDK is growing on me though...

the new rotors are marginally bigger. theres also a bridge across the top of the calipers like the boxster/cayman so it needs to be removed for pad change.

Yes visually it looks small given the 20inchers

On 997 it was 330 on both front and rear axle for C2, C2S, C4, C4S.

rijowysock is right, on 991 it is 330/330 for C2, 340/330 on C2S. If you opt for PCCB, it is 350/350.

It's not BS. The 991 has larger 6 piston calipers at the front compared to the 4 piston ones on the 997.

That could explain why I find the braking in the 991 to be better than in the 997.

Thanks Mike for validating that fact, every now and then a sales guy will "stretch" the truth a bit

I should clarify that only the S model has the 6 piston front calipers, the base car still has the 4 piston setup, but obviously your new S cab would have the 6's.

This is only true for the 997.2. It is not correct for the C2 and C4 on the 997.1. They have 317mm front and 299mm rear. Also the thickness of the front rotors and front calipers on the 997.2 C2/C4 are different than the 997.2 C2S/C4S. The lower models have thinner rotors and smaller calipers.

I get it: coming from a 997.1 base with 317 mm to a 991 base with 330 mm, I actually CAN tell the difference.

997 S brakes are the same brakes as 996TTs.

Yep. And as noted above 991 same size as 996TT - way different caliper - seeing what Pagid offers in the way of track pads.....
