Default The 991. I'm convinced.

Last month, with 10 days left on my ’07 997S lease, I had to decide whether to buy it, look for a leftover 997, or lease a new 911. I went by the dealer just to look - and in 45 minutes leased the 991 below. (Prior to this I had only read the Porsche mailings on the 991 and never thought to check the web for comments…)

Loved driving it home. The smell of new Porsche in the garage was great. Even padded its *** as I went into the house with a large grin. All was wonderful, until I went on Rennlist: “Holy ****”, I thought, “I bought a 996!”. Not only that, some guy on Rennlist called those with a 991 PDK idiots! Well, you guys are familiar with the bashing.

So I spent the next 1,500 miles wondering if I had made a mistake.

Started experimenting with my driving style and the PDK. And now, after a month and 2,700 miles, I can easily state, without compromise, that [for me] driving the 991 is an incredible experience. And I know I will cherish every mile in the driver’s seat, as I did with my prior P-cars.

In short, I am convinced that if I had the 997 and the 991 in my garage, I would 99% of the time chose the 991…and the 997 only for nostalgic reasons.

I agree with some, and understand all, of the comments made by the purists. But, for me, as of this writing, I am in love. Maybe for all the wrong “non-purists” reasons, but after all is said and done, love is blind.

I thank all of you for enjoyable reading, and for getting me through the “hump” of change. Here’s my 991S: (hope I downloaded correctly)

Carlos, that's just gorgeous. I'm glad you're happy with your choice.

I am not generally a fan of black but your car looks fantastic. Needs clear side markers. Other than that it's PERFECT ! You are a brave soul getting to do the upkeep on a black car. I don't envy you that !

Your car looks awesome! Now you have to suffer through the break-in period.

Fortunately for him, he is already beyond that with 2,700 miles on it in one month.

Congrats on your new 991!

It's nice to see a former 997 owner 'get it'

And for the most part, purists are idiots.

Undeniably a better looking rig than the 997. You obviously made the right decision!

Great review. Refreshingly honest. Nostalgia is not a bad thing but just need to recognize it for what it is.

The car is beautiful and I love the painted rims! Can you please post some more pics from different angles?

Carlos, beautiful car and the right decision at the right time when opportunity knocked you knew what to do.. I owned my first Porsche 997.2 for 7 months and traded up to a 991, because I felt it was that much better a car for me and this time ordered what I wanted...
It's wonderful when your gut and your head can actually agree on a decision...

In a few years, the 991 will be "the" 911, and the 997 will be "the old" 911. Not saying I might not end up in a gently used one, but I'd have no regrets either if I were you.

Very very nice 991!
While only being a passenger in the 991, I was thoroughly impressed as this is only a Carrera; great exhaust note, looks, ride, quality, handling, acceleration.....
Enjoy in good health.
