Default 991 PDK Owners - How do you drive?

At a month and 2,300 miles some of the excitement of getting a new p-car is starting to wear off, something that never happened with the 997’s. I’m not enjoying the 991 driving around town or making simple trips. Unlike the 997, I find that I need to constantly drive the 991 at high revs and with the sport suspension on to get the “feeling”…..

In short, I’m struggling to find the 991’s “soul”, and I was wondering how you guys drive the 991PDK. Besides the poll options, I would appreciate any insight on how you handle the car. Thanks.

When I had my 997.2 PDK I found myself almost always driving in manual mode in sport mode on but normal suspension set.

IMHO it is PDK that destroyes the soul of the 911 as at the end of the day PDK is a "manual" automatic transmission. Sure on the twisties PDK is pheonominal and there is no doubt that it makes for faster times between a and b, but PDK slip-sliding gears whilst I was driving around town was the thing that destroyed the ownership experience for me and the reason I sold my 997.2 fairly quickly. If I buy a 991 (quite likely) it will for sure be a manual this time, as I believe there is a greater grin-factor to be hand from the feel of interacting with the car via a manual box than the grin-factor gained in being a few seconds quicker from here to there.

A friend just got her 991 PDK. I've been with her twice, both times she was in non-sport with one hand holding a Starbucks and the other on the heated steering wheel constantly hitting the multifunction buttons.

A great argument for the Sport Design Wheel with PDK (besides the fact that it has proper shift paddles).

This is who a PDK is for, women and idiots that can't drive manual.

My previous car (BMW 335) had a pretty nice sport tranny (not double clutch, but very crisp). In sport mode it had rev matched downshifts, etc. that were well sorted. The paddle design was as good as I have ever seen. It was very easy to drive hard.

That said, normal driving in manual sport mode was very uninvolving, so why bother.

There really is nothing like a stick to put some interest in a trip to the corner store. Even if it is just the skill required to execute smooth shifts that a passenger wouldn't notice.

Well said . . . but now I am second guessing my PDK/Sport Design/Sport PASM order set for completion May 10. Ever since dropping the deposit I have had this nagging question, 'will I miss my manual?'

I may need to take on more track days where the PDK will show it's best colours.

I guess the majority of Porsche buyers are falling into one of those demographics now?

I'm going to nominate this as the most bone headed and ignorant remark on the 991 board to date.

PDK works well in my country where traffic is normally bad.
PDK with its sport, sport+ apparently add different characters to the car

At 2,600 miles: For the last few days I've found myself driving always on manual, w/sport and suspension on. I think that this may be my preferred full time settings. Although, gas consumption is now reading 15.6 mpg, these settings give me a bit more of an "interactive" feeling.

I also received my first speeding ticket in years; 51 mph in a 30 mph zone. When compared to the 997, which felt fast at low speeds, the 991's tightness is forcing me to speed-up for the same feeling. Does this make sense to you 997 to 991 guys?

I never keep a toy I don't like. If you don't like it sell it or trade it for something you do. It's a great daily driver which is what I use it for.
