Would you pay extra to have the black plastic bars in chrome?

I have noticed in pictures of the interior on the 991 that unused buttons on the rear of the central console have chrome on the separating bars only if the button is used and therefore usually there a few with black plastic bars. It looks cheap and incomplete to me. I’d pay to have them all in chrome and if Porsche does not do it it seems there is a business opportunity for someone to put together a kit to supply the materials to finish off the area.

Personally I think vehicles at this level should not have blanks instead of buttons period.
That said all the bars should be silver or black. The ones in my CC (identical switch gear) are all black and it looks much better than the mix and match.

I understand what you're saying. However, I would not care. I'm on my first Porsche (997) and I could not tell you what is "blanked out" without going back into the garage. I just get so excited to be driving it, that I really don't notice much else. I honestly can't even remember when I last listened to the Bose instead of the sweet engine.

Don't disagree that our cars are brilliant to drive at the end of the day. I just have certain pet peeves. If Porsche wants to go lux on the interior, that's fine. Just don't use VW switch gear with cheap blanks. It's very Corvette-like and not very Porsch-like.
I have one blank in my car and the only way to tell it is a blank is by pushing it. That's one blank too many BTW, but at least it looks like the other switches.

I think the idea of "blanks" is state of the art 1970.
One could argue that Porsche "promises" chrome rails on the blanks in their configurator (regardless of the no-doubt blanket disclaimers that nobody reads.)

We can only wish that Porsche had such cunning in their product design and marketing staff. Sadly, just look a the ridiculously useless "soap dish" (?) or whatever it is in the very center of the car ... is it an undersized smoker's ash tray? What's the point of it? And the arm-rest storage console ... it's still designed so it can't be opened from the front seats without your elbow getting in the way ... seriously? Is this the best they can do with a clean sheet to design a cabin? Sheesh.

at least you don't have to fart around with your IPOD while trying to do the twist.

Indeed. Small mercies. The person that decided it would be okay to somehow squeeze an iPhone in the 997 armrest was as twisted as the intended puzzle solution to get the iPhone neatly arranged in that space ... they didn't even try to enlarge the space by a precious half inch to accommodate the iPhone ... then again, they didn't initially even think of supplying 5V to the iPhone interface to charge the iPhone ... seriously a C- scorecard ... "phone it in"
