Default 991 has made me a PDK convert...

I hate to admit it but driving the 991 for a few days now the PDK Sport+ setting manually controlled has been my default setting. The shifts are insane and amusing. I wonder if I would get tired of it?

Sport exhaust in Sport+ is frankly just rude. I love it!

EDIT: Just hopped back in the 997...rather like the shifter. Not as explosively "race car!" as PDK but such a sweet experience with the manual...tough choice...

I have not driven the 991 PDK, but I did drive and liked the 997 PDK enough to consider getting a PDK car. However, I ended up getting a C2S with a manual transmission.

I find your post very interesting!

Now drive your 997 the same way you drove the 991.... shift at the same RPMs as you did in the 991. Do that for two days and give us a subjective "comparison" report, if you don't mind.

Ive driven the new 991 with a PDK. While the car was nice overall, the PDK trans still leaves me wanting for more. First, its "upshift forward, downshift backwards" that bugs me, they have it backwards. Second, the buttons on the wheel are not ideal either; paddles should be standard. Third, although the shifts are very quick, I prefer to do the work myself because its far more engaging and you get a real feel for the car.

If I do get a 991 it will absolutely be with the manual trans.

It's funny...what most probably think is the 991's greatest strength (Jekyll or Hyde via switches) I find to be its greatest weakness. I just want my Porsche to be one thing...fun!

Are you saying Mr. Hyde is compromised by Dr. Jekyll ?

All my Porsches up to the 991 have been manual. I drove one everyday for 15 years. I do like the PDK for an everyday driver.

Not really...it's just that I told like having to set the car up all the time and then I fiddle with it because, well, it's there...

There's something to be said for a car being setup one way and that's the car. That's it's personality.

I'm a bit weird...if anything PDK is more fun for the weekend rip because of the shift speed and funny exhaust sounds (burbs on upshift at part throttle).

Daily driving a manual is still OK with me (as long as it's a good one).

Now that I'm not in the 991 anymore...the desire for PDK is fading....

I wanted to try the PDK and read that the one in the 991 is improved. I suspect the new 991 turbo will be PDK. Thats what I really want. I prefer this car to my 997 turbo which I sold after buying this car. I like the PDK and will not go back to the manual.

I never enjoyed it in the 997 but felt it really worked in the 991 I drove. The 991 has so many systems and they are all so integrated I really wonder if the car would feel right with the manual.

Maybe it's an either or type scenario...

Either get a C2 with steel springs and a manual or a C2S with PDCC, SPASM, PDK, Sport Chrono, Torque Vectoring, etc...etc...

I've only had two p cars, for the last 7 years and a total of 160k miles. Just drove the 991 pdk and I think I'm ready to leave the stick.
I have two choices: a very classic silver or a black with black painted wheels - with the exception of full leather, both are loaded with options.
Two different looking cars, one is classic and almost lady like and the other looks like a screamer. What to do, what to do, what to do??

Both are great choices.

Are you choosing between cars on the lot or ordering?

I couldn't agree more. My DD 997 is very basic and I love it. The only time I would miss a PDK would be heavy traffic. I would love to hear more from the few members getting a C2 manual. Wonder if there is a big noticeable weight diff if you got the bum-basic C2? Then there is the loaded C2S, and everything in between. The 0-60 diff between a manual C2 and a SC C2S is 0.7 sec (4.6-3.9). I'm not sure that is very important to me, otherwise I'd be shopping a GTR. Cheers.

Agreed...would be nice to read a comparison. I'd have to imagine they are very different cars...if they aren't then why get all the complex bits that will no doubt break?

All these cars have complex bits. The manual is the same transmission adapted to manual shift. Honestly I don't miss the clutch pedal that much.
