Beautiful cars, certainly, but that 458 kicks the 991's ***. As it should, for twice the money...

the 458 is quicker, louder and certainly more exotic but the 991 rides better, has 2 extra seats and better ergonomics (all those buttons on the steering wheel of the 458 are a pain) and in terms of musical sound track I would argue the 991 comes close now, much closer than the 997.2
and also dont forget you can park a porsche anywhere, the 458 I would be worried stiff constantly
lastly, reliability is better in the 991 as it should be since they produce 10-20 times more cars per year. I heard of quite a few problems with the 458 from some owners.
so anyway the 458 kicks the 991's ***, yes but just a little bit :-)

Question 2X ?

From what I've seen, optioned properly they are least $275,000. Guess it's all relative!

Agree 100%! Driving a 458 is like driving a searchlight, and even if I could afford one, I don't know if I'd own one. Then again, it's probably the most exciting car I've seen in my entire life, save for that Countach that hung on the wall next to Farrah Fawcett poster in my childhood bedroom.

At this price tag, comparing a 991 base or even S with a 458 it's not really exact, but I guess they've done it to have fun. I have a feeling it's not going to be so much fun for the 458 when Porsche comes out with the 991 Turbo,GT3 RS or GT2. Let's see then who's going to ' admire ' the nice back of which...

Just read a guy in Japan was arrested after posting a YouTube video in his Ferrari going 77mph. People complained about the excessive speed, after seeing the video. I bet they were Porsche owners.

Not fair, comparing a true sports car to a new Porsche GT car!

I bet the 458 does not have the sound symposer. All that money, and no artificial sound being pumped thru an interior "air speaker"? That ain't right, man.

the 458 does not need a sound composer, the engine is sitting in the back seats :-)
but to be honest, after 2 hours in the 458 I was almost deaf and I am glad in the 991 I can push a button to silence it sometimes

It won't kick the 991 Turbo's ***, that's for sure.

The 458 is still awesome, I'd like to have both, each for different reasons.

If you watch the video, the guy is getting spanked the whole time by a 997 turbo
