I don't get it, the 991 haters get all up in arms about 991 maintenance because it requires more hands on work, but complain about the ease of drivability of the 991. I would think that it would endear them by having historic 911 maintenance procedures.

every 40k is the recommended air filter replacement interval
every 40k with an "*".

if you track, if you if live in area prone to air pollution, if you so much as drive the car the way it was meant to be driven, blah blah blah.

40k is total crap.

whos hating? i like it a lot. Im just peeved that the oil filter access is more complex. I cant figure out why the fan housing isnt attached to the trunk like the 997.

The air filter location is a bit more complex as this car takes in more air and there's very little space in the rear engine car.

a little track work and hard driving is not going to noticeably reduce the life of your air filter.

Even 30k miles is no big deal.

Its not just the $800 - who wants their rear bumper removed?

What I don't understand is, the engine moved a bit forward in the 991 - so why are the air filters buried in the rear bumper?

really? who cares? Its a piece of plastic. It flexes, it moves, and it will go back into place just like it was before.

Whats the big deal?

I think it is a big deal
Porsche owners are hands on and the fans, the filters are forcing owners to the dealer.
Do you think this isn't by design??

Plus, I want to see my motor, not plastic fans

This is pretty much a deal breaker for me, especially the rear bumper removal for the filters

The 458 looks better all the time and I never thought I'd say that about a Ferrari

Stupid design by Porsche

I agree and am surprised so many are ok with this. It would certainly seem to increase the risk of just not putting body parts back together exactly correctly, maybe stripped screws or simply scratches to the paint.

If you can't remove a fan panel that is probably two electrical connectors and maybe 6 bolts, you're not much of a mechanic and probably shouldn't be changing the oil in any case.

Of course its by design. But if you can't adapt, then again, you aren't much of a mechanic.

Oh, you want to see the motor do you? Kinda like you can see it in the 997:

wow, part of an alternator and a whole lot of black plastic. I mean is this really anything impressive? Its not like anyone is spending hours admiring all that black plastic.

If a deal breaker is having to remove a bumper cover every 30k miles, then maybe a longhood is more your style.

The 458 huh? Glad thats not nearly $300k with some options. NOt to mention, if you think that car is easy to service, you have another thing coming. Ask your local ferrari dealer how much a set of clutches cost.

If you are not a pretty good mechanic you shouldn't mess with them anyway. A Ferrari is not easy to work on either. A lot of them you have to remove the engine to service them.

My dealer gets 1 hours labor, and the price of oil, 2 washers and a filter. That comes to $178, of which $96 is labor. The car comes back washed and vacuumed, tire pressures set, and everything checked over. I consider that a fair price. I could do all that myself in a morning and likely will just for the hell of it. I suppose if I add up the time for getting the parts, etc, it will look all the more like a bargain.

I asked about the filters. There are 13 screws that need to be removed to pull the bumper cap off. The tech it a 20 min job. Likely take me all morning too.

This ALL one hell of a lot easier than adjusting valves and replacing rotors and plugs folks- and I used to enjoy the "engagement" and prayer involved!
