Default need help deciding between 991 or 997s.

Hello,
This is my first post to this forum. I am trading in my 09 328 coupe and thinking about 2 options:
1. Lease 991 Cab (Price at 109000)
2. Finance a 2010 997 Cab S (less than 10000 miles for about 85000)

I keep going back and forth on this issue. Option 1 may be a couple hundred dollars more a month. I just don't want to have any regrets about my purchase. Thanks in advance

Patrick

Doesn't seem to be a big diff in the payments, so the real question is 997 vs. 991. I would test drive the 997 now and wait to test drive the 991 when it comes out. That way you can make up your mind. BTW-this is a good dilemma to have.

They're gonna want more than a couple of hundred for a first release 991 cab vs a used two year old 997 on a lease!

I'm considering similar options. The only way I could justify a 997 at this point is if it is at a tremendous savings. If the 991 costs approx $100k, I wouldn't get a 997 unless it were similar and around $70k or less. It just doesn't make sense to me to buy an outgoing vehicle that costs $80-100k when the new model is around the corner.

Keepin mind the 991 will be around for about 6 years, so it will be very current for at least that long. According to a few porsche people I know who have driven the 991, its a big leap foward, combining superior, supercar performance {in the S } with everyday car comfort.

I read a few threads in the German Porsche Forum PFF with reviews of the 991 base Carrera from actual owners praising the ultra fast revving capability of the new 3.4L engine, They couldnt notice a difference in performance when compared side by side with the S under normal driving conditions.
According to them. the Base carrera with PDK and sport chrono delivers super car performance too.

Buy a late model 997. Drive it 2-3 years. Then get a 2013 or 2014 used 991. Let Porsche work the bugs out first.

I've been looking for reviews of the base 991. There's not much out there. I've wondered why not-is the base that bad....or could it be that good. The site you mention-I suppose it's in German? Nicht Deutsch sprechen. Cheers.

Just spent three days with 991 and 997. NO COMPARISON. All day long, it would be 991. Drove them both hard and in real life settings. The 991 is so amazing, I dont care how much I could get a 997 for. Well maybe thats not true. But 991 was FAR superior in every sense.

Bingo. A more financially sound process as well.

Even with the expertise Porsche has with these manufacturing processes, there are ALWAYS bugs in the first year's production. Have some patience. You will thank yourself later for it.

The 991... even if it is a first year car, thats what warranty is for. The 991 is in a different league from the 997. The 991 is the first entirely new 911 since the 996. The 997 was just a slight alteration of the 996. The 991 is a whole new car... weighing in just barely in the 3,000 pound area. The fact that the new 991 S was as fast around the ring as a 997 GT3 MKII is amazing. Porsche has taken a page from the GT-R playbook and has made the car more confidence inspiring to drive which almost always translates to better.

991. No brainer unless the money savings is your primary concern.

I will give you my 2 cents worth. After owning a 997, and driving the 991, IMO there is no contest. Get the 991.
