On a side note. I believe (fairly certain) Porsche equipped the 997.2S with Cups AND PCCBs in order to achieve the 7:50. There is no reason to believe that they wouldn't do the same with the 991 in order to achieve the 7:40. Yeah impressive and may turn an equal lap, but, it AIN'T no GT3.
So your saying they ran cups to get that time. I find that funny since after they questioned Nissan for not running OEM to set there lap times. Seems a bit hypercritical to now do the same thing.

I don't think they even make a 20" N rated cup tire. My information indicates street tires.

To get the 7:50 with the .2 C2S yes. I could be mistaken but I don't think so.

For the 991S, I can only speculate as to the tire type. I think it is fair to say that the rest of the options ~ basically every option to make the car faster ~ were used. Why would Porsche market their new 911S and leave time on the table at this point. So yes to PCCBs, PDCC, PDK w/SC Plus (w/DEM), buckets (maybe). TT Surgeon has a good point. Of course, that doesn't mean that Porsche couldn't get their hands on a Cup tire which the rest of us can't have, yet.

Porsche 911 vehicle line director August Achleitner said the new 911 Carrera S, armed with a 20mm lower sports suspension and regular tyres, was now as fast around the famed circuit as the previous generation’s race-ready 911 GT3.

The 7:40 was set with 20" street tires, on bulk heavy wheels, they are the standard wheels in the 991S 8.5" x 20" and 11" x 20". I suspect they used the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport, as it is available in 245/35 and 295/30 x 20 sizes.

The 991 is a new body, the seats are all new, there are no bucket seats available, and there won't be for at least 18 months until the GT3 is released.

I personally prefer the cheaper and better sounding 997.2 GT3, regardless of being slower than the 991 Carrera S.

Thanks, good points. Agreed on the .2 GT3, however, I have yet to hear a 991S. (Factor in tires and my beloved GT3 may be a wee bit slower over a lap at the Ring. It is clearly faster accelerating than the 991S even with PDK.) I'm sure the 991 doesn't sound much different than the .2 C2S; being that each has the 9A1.

I dig the new car, but I am keeping my 3 until I see the 991 3.
