First pictures I've seen next to a 997. I'd like to see more!

The first pic next to 997, is eye opening... look at the rear with the engine bay and spoiler lines... TOTALLY OFF, they should have followed the roof line like 997 and then it would have looked fantastic! Now it looks totally off... WHY???

I would like to have seen it next to a 997.2. Better comparison. Less differentials.

not really. Just taillight difference. Big diff (with both) is that rear engine/spoiler does NOT follow the roof line.

Though the image is skewed a bit due to angles, the space from the door handle to the rear wheel well on the 997 appears to have grown substantially on the 991. That must be where they added overall length.

Glad to see some manny tranny images too....whew.

And maybe they are bringing Arctic back.

Sure the car is faster, but I do not like it at all:

- Audi like wheels ?

- Panamera interior ?

- Too much luxury

Step by step, the 911 is totally loosing focus of its roots -- Let's hope they don't ruin the GT3, too, hopefully not !

I owned a 997.2 C4S for 2 years, sold the car and never connected with it... For me, the only good Porsches today are the GT3 and GT3 RS. And the Boxster Spyder; the rest is too refined, too commercial, lacks soul...

The more things change....the more things stay the same....

It never ceases to amuse me how the arrival of a new 911 (or indeed "356") elicits almost an identical suite of consternation and denigration for the "new son"...only for this to give way to a warm embrace and increasing pride as the new arrival garners supporters....(usually after folk have actually driven it...)

The king is dead, long live the king!

Not sure about "amusing", but it is real. With each new model generation, Porsche has increased sales by appealing to a wider audience by becoming more focused on refinement. BMW is guilty of this as well. Meanwhile, luxury brands have been attempting to add performance. For manufacturers, it's all about sales volume; being all things to all people. So, yes, with each passing generation of 911 (or indeed "356"), Porsche loses some 'purists', and sells more cars.
