Among other things, this is achieved by systems and functions such as auto start/stop, thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission and – in conjunction with the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) – sailing as it is called.

Party is indeed over. It'a not that the interior is not good, (in fact it is stunning) it just belongs in a luxury sport sedan or a sport SUV and not in an timeless and iconic sports car. The PDCC and PTV will be a great addition but not so much the noise and thermal insulated glass, Burmester, (the usual cash cows for Porsche) which again transforms it to a GT. The rear overhang is certainly there but is not very noticeable.

PDCC-"active roll stabilization"--interesting.

At this point I am more curious about how it drives since we know how it looks.

Default I will keep my 997 for now.....

"Party is indeed over. It's not that the interior is not good, (in fact it is stunning) it just belongs in a luxury sport sedan or a sport SUV and not in an timeless and iconic sports car."

What he said X 100000000..... This interior may attract those whom are much less true sports car enthusiast like and from a sales perspective sure a bigger/broader audience overall unfortunately. Those that truly love the 911 for what it was and currently is will suffer as a company tries to please the masses. Sure a great car but for me going in a direction that makes this car much less attractive to purchase.

Cements my next purchase (in next 18-24 months) of an 07/08 gt3 rs.....

I'm not in the market, but if I was a 991 "waiter" I sure as heck wouldn't need condolences. I like the new car a lot, at least from a cosmetic standpoint. TEHO. The proof, of course, will be in the drive.

I like the outside ALOT. Do not like the inside but can use to it. Love 997.2 too much for now. So no rushing to get a 991. I can actually wait a couple of years or more.

The press release stipulates that the inspiration for the upsloping center console was the Carrera GT's interior. The idea is to have the shifter and steering wheel as close together as possible. However as we all know the Carrera GT is not a "real sports car." Not to mention the fact that the Carrera GT has a wooden shift **** and no one driving a "sports car" would want the interior to look like a yacht, would they? [/sarcasm off]

I think that the interior is a great improvement. I also like everything on the outside with the exception of the overly busy script on the back. I'm sure it can be factory deleted. I wish the tail lights were more like the 997.2 version but that's a small objection in the grand scale of things. It promises to be faster, better handling and more fuel efficient than the previous version.

While I do love the neo-retro look of the 997's interior, I think the 991's interior isn't that bad and will grow on many. Especially like the black two-tone version pictured above vs. the all sand color pics.

My feeling is that Porsche will have a hit with the 991 and will sell tons of 'em. Funny how everyone loves the classic air cooled 911s and with each new release there are cries that Porsche has messed up the 911. But in terms of actual sales and profit, the water cooled era has been a much greater success for Porsche.

I have full confidence that Porsche has done its homework and the 991 will be a better performer than previous 911s. Yet there will always be those who are unhappy and will say the character is missing blah blah blah...

Is the car key like the Panamera too?

Love the exterior, i am sure it's going to be great to drive, but I really have a hard time with the center console...why so big?
