Default French article about 997.2 PSE and 991

It's short and part of an article read in June issue of Flat 6.
Porsche speaking: "We know that the PSE on the 997.2 isn't the best. There is very little difference in sound with the standard exhaust. The fault lies with the noise reduction standards which we've had to adhere to and which changed between Phase 1 and Phase 2. But since, we've found a way to get very good results these new standards. You will see that on the 991, PSE will be excellent"

"The 991 is very pretty. It's a pure 911 and even if it is slightly larger in dimension you will find it as compact as the 997 when driving. We have worked the weight aspect a lot on this new generation".

So nothing really new - just FYI. Hopefully the PSE on the 991 will be as promised! Still looking to get something done about my own 997.2 on that front. Anyone with Tubi in Central Florida and willing to give me an earful?

Start with the center muffler bypass crossover pipes from AWE or Sharkwerks.

I'm open to either. Just would like to get an earful first before committing. Doing so with PSE is easy - just test drive any GTS in any lot, and voila!
Again; if anyone in Central Fla. has such a setup I'd love to hear it!

Funny that the so called "noise reduction standards" posed no issue with the sound on the 997.2 GT3 and GT3RS. I think that's BS speak for Porsche doing a sub par job on the 997.2's DFI PSE.

Weird that the PSE doesn't sound that good on the 997.2. It sounds incredible on the Spyder, mechanical music which can raise the hairs on your back at full throuttle.

+1, unless if the standard varies based on #of produced cars? I seriously doubt that.

997.1 PSE is also fantastic!

PSE sounds good on my 2012 GTS. Much better than I thought it might after reading some posts on the 997.2 PSE.

Compared to what?

It is definitely more muted, not as raw as 997.1 PSE, GT3, Astons, Maeserati, etc...

Have heard several 991 prototypes in Stuttgart and was surprised about the sound. Not sure if it will make its way into production but if it does... then there should be no need for an aftermarket exhaust.

Geez, Alex, GSIRM3 just said PSE sounded good to him. Why should he have to compare to anything? He didn't say it was better than other exhausts, just that it was better than he expected it to be from the negative posts on the 997.2 PSE. PSE sounds good on my 2009 Carrera S too; that's a personal qualitative judgment. No comparison required.

Notice that there are no MY2012 GT3s. Porsche had to engineer the 997 to meet MY2012 exhaust regulations, but knew if they made all 997.2 GT3s with MY2009-2011 they wouldn't have to comply with the regulations on those models.

Also, listen to some of the gorgeous sounds that the 991 can make!

Fair enough, it's all about the end user's satisfaction... someone can say a Prius performance is good enough for them, doesn't mean it's performance is great.

It's very well documented that basically they screwed up on 997.2 exhaust and PSE... one area 991 is definitely improved.

I was just at Nurburgring last month for a day of tracking and the exhaust note difference was absolutely incredible... when a GT3 RS passed me at around 200 KM/h the sound was absolutely defeaning, a lot like DTM exhaust notes. Same was true for 997.1, and even turbos, and 997.2 were nowhere close... Now, don't get me started on the amazing exhaust tone of Maseratis and the Ferraris!

Isn't the GT3 RS 4.0 a MY2012? That car has a great sound track. And if they can make the 991 sound great, it just proves that they missed an opportunity with the 997.2 DFI's sound track. Not saying the 997.2's sound is bad or anything, just saying it could have been better.
