Nice sound, thanks for the vid. Sorry for the Hijack.

I promised myself, having chosen not to wait for the 991, that I wouldn't get involved in "which is better debates" b/c I'm invested and can't really be impartial. That said, if the sunroof on that car (991) is what PAG has in mind, well, to my eyes, Bleech! It's bad enough that we don't get a sunroof delete. Then, to make matters worse, on those rare occasions while driving a 991 when you decide to open it you get a flap that looks like it's just hanging there. At least on the 997 PAG had the decency to hide the roof when it was retracted. Maybe there's some mechanical/aerodynamic rationale for it, at least I hope so.

Of course maybe this only bothers the comparatively few enthusiasts.

I assume that the roof opens this way to save headroom space for the rear seat passengers.

... and possibly more headroom for the front seat occupants.

I dunno, sounds like a current DFI engine.

Have to say I'm not over impressed by the exhaust note. It's the one aspect of a modern 911 that for me disappoints, the stock exhaust tends to be a little too conservative. I realize you can add a sport exhaust, but for me the stock exhaust just isn't aggressive enough, they tend to be perhaps a little too inoffensive.

Don't blame Porsche, it's because of the crackdown on noise pollution. It was pretty popular a few years ago where my parents live to ticket cars for modified exhausts because most of the exhaust systems people buy are for "off-road" use only. That's fine for Civics with coffee can exhausts because it makes their car sound like it's farting anyway.

I think it's gorgeous. A particularly beautiful step in the evolution.

Enough about the sunroof already. :to_order:

To someone that doesnt drive the 997, it seems like very subtle changes which is good for us. Wont make the 997 look dated. Not sure what the lights look like nor the final interior shots. But, I like the subtle changes except for the sunroof. Ouch

Thank you posting the video. Not my color. The roof looks like it isn't close properly. I am still looking forward to Frankfurt. Thanks again.

Cheers

From this video, it doesn't look drasticaly different than the 997, which is good.

It is very sharp though, despite that awful color.

You can say that again! Oh, wait.... you already did. ;)

It is strange how RL sometimes produces double posts.

OK, now that was funny..... :)

My guess is that might not be the actual sun roof, but rather a roof disguise to hide the real sun roof operation from spying eyes. Because it's just sitting on the regular roof, it's not tilting or slid back and there doesn't seem to an opening.

mdeleeuw 08-10-2011 07:14 AM

Looks to me like the roof is slightly open in the front. Sort of like it pops up first as a unit then slides back. Think minivan door on the roof :icon107:

I hope I'm wrong!

The porsche vid from South Africa shows the roof quite well, also the new spoiler and the engine compartment...which by the way is way smaller than the current version, and appears to be encased in plastic.

Everything else about the look is fantastic. Other than the car being bigger, the specs say it is lighter which in the long run will make it more fun.

Now back to bashing the sunroof :)

BC-997 08-10-2011 06:39 PM

Ok...if it's the final version (and I think it is) it operates like many of the sunroof's from the early Mazda RX7's and other sport coupes. Kinda retro in my opinion.
