GTS or 991
#46
See my avatar (aqua blue FTW).
I just was at Thunderhill with my GTS Cab this past weekend (absolute first track days in any car). The car was brilliant. PCNA also had a set of GTS demo vehicles there for rides with their PSDS drivers, also amazing.
So given the question, GTS or 991, my answer was and still is GTS. Effectively I think the equivalent is 991 + some time waiting for the first special edition or set of options that make it as special as the GTS. The base car will be fantastic but you will really want that version with something extra in the end. The GTS is that version for the 997.
Again, the GTS is an amazing, amazing car.

I went GTS
Guys,
Interesting thread, here is some more food for thought, that is somewhat consistent with earlier posts:
I thought long and hard about GTS vs. 991 earlier this year and went GTS. Why? While I trust Porsche engineering and technology above all, and was quite confident that the 991 would be excellent, I prefer not to buy the first MY of a new engineering generation in case of teething problems or the need for further refinement. I have also noticed that Porsche will come out with more goodies and refinements after first MY to entice new buyers.
Finally, I thought the GTS would be a safe bet as perhaps it is the ultimate engineering iteration of the 997.2 series, with all the discounted performance goodies and previously unobtainable wide body with 2WD. I figured that the cars resale value would be reasonable as well, given the limited build numbers, but that was my last concern, as I bought the car to drive as much as possible and enjoy while still walking and breathing.

I currently own a 2003 M3 w/22,000 miles as my weekend fun car. If I like the GTS as much as I think I will, then I would keep it at least 3 years. That is, unless something else pops up. My M3 is eight years old but seems like i just got it!

The GTS is Awesome!!! I really cant imagine how the early 991 could be very, if at all, "better" I just picked up my GTS today that has 2700 miles on it. Feels/smells like new. With just the right options. Back in the P family after seven years. The P cars have come a long ways, since my 996/GT2/3 days. Really spectacular for a DD. Makes such a difference over the M3. WoW!!
