Ditto. 993 for the weekends. Possibly a nice open air cab...

I learned about the 991's longer WB a long time ago and immediately expressed my concern about changes in its handling as I care about that. I drive a 911 because I love its unique characteristics. When those characteristics change (and they have with the 991 - several reports clearly say that its dynamic characteristics have changed, as the car is far more stable)... My 997.2 is already a much more refined car than the 996/993/964 were. It comes a point when the refinements changes the original 911 characteristics completely. I do not want a super stable/refined car, or better weight distribution.

So there you have it. It's not poopooing the 991. The 991 will be an awesome car, but nor for all of us. I bet that most Porsche buyers these days won't know the difference.
I think ppl made the same arguments about 993, the unique characteristics of Air-cooled engine, hence the price premium those have over all of 996 model range... 997 will be the 993, LAST remaining 911 with the pendulum effect and PROPER steering feel.

My '84 3.2 Carrera had NO power steering and many felt those non-boosted cars were the last 911's with "proper" steering feel. It's a matter of preference, but in general I think they were wrong. IMO, until we've had a chance to drive the 991 I don't see how any judgements can be made about the steering.

and the electric steering - also CAFE driven. I've yet to read a good review of electric power steering in any car that has it.

I beg to differ. ABS, AWD, airbags, power steering, twin-plug 3.6 - it may not look much different, but underneath there were huge advances with the 964, arguably more than 964->993.

Until Porsche states this as fact, it is an internet rumor. The way I see it, the timeline just doesn't work out; the hard points of the 991 had to have been established years before the legislation.

From a design standpoint, the wheelbase needed to be stretched to work with a more raked windshield.
