991 ordering in August.
had a 997cab+Coupe.. when i traded in the coupe i told my dealer i wanted the 991 for sure.. and was only ordering the 11' cayenne to fill the time between, was going to place order today for a 12' cayenne when he mentioned off the cuff that he heard that he will be able to place orders for the new chassis starting August/September for delivery 1st quarter of 2012...
they are a very large dealer, and no reason for him to "sway" me away from ordering the 12' cayenne on a guess/whim.. sounds exciting (its basically how the 11' Turbo came out in early 2010... the 991 might be branded as a 2013 but will come out first quarter 2012.
hope this info helps some, it's a few months out but still good info..

when it will come it will come. i would not hold my breath much prior to that. only part i personally care about is what will they do with asking prices. i just want to hope it will not jump up too high on models with decent engines, as they obviously plan on 'widening the gap' between base and 'S'.

I was at dealer, he said first cars arrive March 2012. Not sure when ppl can order.

Given lead time and production delays that will most certainly happen, I would say for March 2012 , August 2011 seems about right .
Surprised both the Europe and NA will be offered at the same time and not like the 997 debut.

Go for it! Gonna dump the Lotus?
With Porsches, I don't worry that much about "first year" iterations. When I bought my 04 996 Targa, I had been thinking about ordering a 997, and actually swayed myself into the Targa by "worrying" about first year issues. Then 4-5 months later, I traded the Targa and bought my dealer's 997S launch car and drove it home on launch day (and still have nothing but praise for it).
And think about the one thing I have always wanted to do - order a paint-to-sample!!! [Not sure they will let you do that on launch.] I still think this is one cool option and probably the best value-to-cost-ratio of any option.

I agree...1st year new model Carreras are not a problem. Porsche tests the heck out of these cars

I learned my lesson with an August 2004 built 997. There were a lot of little issues with the 2005 997, and mine seemed to have all of them - disappearing coolant, broken horn, broken door hinge, and sunroof cartridge, to name a few - but the worst were a key interlock issue that left me stuck more times than I can count, and took 4 trips to the dealer over 2 months to diagnose, and losing the Tiptronic transmission on a busy LA freeway early in its life (there was a subsequent recall), with the car in the shop for 2-3 weeks.
And the 991 will most certainly be a more complex vehicle. I am looking forward to it, but I will definitely not be first in line.
