The shorthand of referring to the 11 Sept 2001 terror attacks as "9/11" reflects the use of the "middle endian" (month-day) time format in the US. A time format that is only used in 6 or so countries.

Given this, I would expect Porsche to continue to downplay the use of 911 -or potentially retire it- in the US and Canada, but prefer to continue its usage elsewhere.

Notably, 9 November 1989 - 9/11/89 in little endian (day-month) - was the fall of the Berlin Wall.

I think people distinguish the two. 911 is a car, 9/11 is a terror event.

I remember shortly after 9/11 many were calling for the name of the movie The Two Towers to be changed. The book was obviously titled long before the attack. People are retarded.

Any word on whether the 991 will be mandatory sunroof for the Carerra models? I really hate that about the 997's.

My young boys used to ask me why someone named a car after the police. Kids are funny...

Although the traditional shape is generally retained, the 991 is looking less and less like a 911 to me. It's more "Audi-ish" to my eyes.

Porsche Cars North America decides which options are mandatory in the USA. A sunroof, airconditioning, AM/FM/CD, and a very long list of other "mandatory" options are all predetermined by PCNA, not Porsche Cars AG. Every car at the factory starts as a shell and the requirements for the specific country and distributor are added after that.

A sunroof is optional, not standard, in most other countries.

If sunroofs are not your thing (and they are not my thing either) then simply get any 996/997 GT3 or GT3RS.

Judging by spyshots, it looks like there's an optional glass roof for the Carrera models.

However, I think this option will lead to the elimination of the Targa models.

this might be a mandatory US option because almost every single U.S spec mule testing seems to have this roof.

Cool

Longer, lower, wider, heavier, more powerful has happened to every major update since the Series 1.

This seems far less dramatic visually (and thus less disburbing) than the moves between '73-74, '89-'90, '94-95, '98-99, and certainly '04-05 and beyond. It is growing on me, much the way all the others had to grow on me a bit before I was in my happy spot again with the new model. This, too, will become my ideal, eventually, just like the current 997.2.

+1

Except for the heavier part. It's rumored to be some 20kg lighter than a comparable 997.2

It looks great, and will likely be incredible. I like the way the taillights are larger, ala 997.1, which emphasize that great wide tush.

I don't believe that this is true. For example, the brochures in the showroom continue to identify the model as "911."

911 the model is way older than the event. SO why should P change it? Will they change their Corp HQ phone # as well?

at the rate wheel diameters are increasing, we s/b at 24's in about 10yrs. Geez. I knew I s/h opened up a wheel repair biz!

The new car is 56mm longer, and 11mm shorter than the 997. At the rear the wide body models are now 66mm wider. To put that into perspective, that's two rulers and 6mm. Now that's wide!

Two rulers? I'm not sure what you mean, 66 mm is 2.5 inches.
