On my 991.2, I extended the emergency rear lid cable out through a hole in the body behind the right tail light. I tucked it into another hole in the body below that hole. The pull is straight out instead of up and it pulls much easier. Taillight fits without problems. Just remove taillight and pull the cable to release.

I would put some sort of grommet in those holes to keep the cable from fraying on the steel edges.
Question. when you say “extended” did you add additional length of cable to the stock/existing factory cable release?
Or just reroute what was already there?

Extended the existing and made a straight shot out the body work behind the taillight. This is a straight pull rather than the awkward pull up with the stock short cable and stock position. Much easier pull and easy to just remove a taillight to get to the cable
