Since we all know the front end of our 991s could benefit from a stiffer front spring, I embarked on a little project with the help of @js9527
I had a couple goals I wanted to accomplish with this project.
•To be able to corner balance the car / Adjust ride height
•Increase front spring rate
•Maintain PASM and FAL functionality
Those criteria basically left me with the choice between the Nitron E-Tron R1/3 (which are on an indefinite back order), a Tractive setup or lastly, seeing if I could fashion something to work with the OEM strut.
I selected a 336# (58.8N/mm) front spring to pair up with the OEM SPASM’s 108N/mm rear spring, machined some 60mm spring seats and reassembled the strut. Ride height can be adjusted with strut insertion depth or with shims.
I haven’t fiddled with the DSC yet, but initial test drive proved promising, with no bouncing or any additional NVH. FAL operates nominally. Pretty happy so far, will have to get some more miles on it and re-corner balance the car after the springs settle in.
The OEM dust boot is a tight fit inside the 60mm ID springs, I’ll have to source something a little slimmer.
