Default Porsche Auto Insurance - Who has it? Love or hate?

Okay so I'm insured with USAA for my home, auto's etc however my car insurance went sky high this last renewal mainly because I'm in the middle of a divorce and live in Austin, TX. So with that being said, I started looking for other options as I have a 2016 Subaru Outback as a daily and my 991.2 as my fun car. Here is what I'm faced with.

USAA
  • Insuring the Porsche and Subaru I'm looking at $1500 every 6 months with $1000 deductibles

USAA and Porsche insurance
  • Subaru would be $600 every 6 months with $1000 deductible
  • Porsche would be $542 every 6 months with $500 deductible with average of 7000 miles a year driven
  • $1100 every six month for both cars with two different carriers

I don't have experience with PAI, but all things equal, I wouldn't hesitate to save $800 per year and have a lower deductible on the 911.

I am in the same boat as you and in Austin. 991.2 GTS is a weekend / fun car. I have 3 cars on my USAA auto policy, but the Porsche is pretty expensive even with reduced mileage. I have considered moving the Porsche to another carrier, but haven't looked seriously yet. I will say that my daughters Honda ran out of gas at Tgiving break on her way back to TCU on 35N (dealer recall...tech broke sending unit, guage read full when it was 1/2 tank.). She was frightened and in tears, but managed to coast her car to the right hand shoulder. I jumped in the BMW and made my way to Waco area. The wife got online with USAA and they had a tow truck to her in 40min...very easy. They then towed it to Waco Honda the next day.
That type of service for my family when I really needed it was why I gave pause on moving the Porsche at this time.
Good luck with your search and decision.

I have it but luckily haven’t had to use it. I got it because of the agreed value. I didn’t want progressive saying my car was worth much less than replacement value and wanted genuine Porsche repair shop if I had to use.

Porshe insurance guarantees Porsche approved repair facility. Progressive will be installing used parts..... No comparison. I have a 16 year and Progressive was charging $700 every 6 months since the 16 year old is covered. I switched to Porsche and with $3K miles a year $280 in Houston Texas, All insurance companies are crap, one demand letter resolves that quickly..

I lost the connection, what does this have to do with Porsche insurance? Did you insurance company send gas out?

I have it and like the agreed value. Also, you pay by the mile driven which is a plus for less driven, garage queen type cars.....Phil

Not direct connection other than same city, nearly same car, same insurance, same predicament, considering porsche insurance, better rates may not equal same service is also a consideration

I just checked out Porsche Auto Insurance. Good rates.

This information was in the email they sent:
Porsche Auto Insurance is offered by Mile Premier LLC, a managing general insurance agency with principal offices located at PO Box 725369, Atlanta, GA 31139 DBA Porsche Auto Insurance, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mile Auto, Inc.

So I checked out Mile Auto: https://www.mileauto.com/

Then I checked with the Better Business Bureau where they have an F rating: https://www.bbb.org/us/ga/atlanta/pr...-0443-91825473

Not very confidence inspiring.

Martin

There wasn't enough real world data on them two years ago when I was switching to an agreed value insurer and there still isn't enough data. I need multiple people to have claims experiences with them that are positive before I switch and even then I'd be hesitant given they were pulling out of many states just a year ago and now they're getting back into those same states. When you're thinking about insurance you need to think stability. This is a product that you're going to be using at one of the worst times in your life. You're not going to want to have to wonder if they're going to pay out. I was paying around $800/yr with State Farm, Porsche Auto Insurance was around $1k/yr and my Hagerty Policy is around $1600/yr. Hagerty actually is partners with a lot of the other major insurance companies (State Farm and Progressive).

Main reason I switched was OEM parts replacement (State Farm doesn't offer that in Ohio) and agreed value. I specifically didn't want to have a $50k+ repair that they chose to use cheap aftermarket parts on.

Also consider switching all of your policies to a high net worth insurer that will offer agreed value and bundling discounts.

I had an enormous comprehensive claim last year and Allstate increased the premium - not by increasing the charge but cleverly eliminating a "discount."

It literally pays to shop around for car, auto, and umbrella insurance every year. I recently switched from Allstate to Erie and saved over $3,000 annually - on an 'apples to apples' basis for four cars and two homes. Loyalty to an insurance company doesn't always guarantee the best rates or coverage - they are certainly not loyal to you. By shopping around annually, you can make informed decisions and potentially save thousands.

Insurance companies are nothing more than bookies

The problem I have with shopping around is I just do not know what the payout policy is on companies. I have been with Geico for decades and know they pay out on accidents and the payout is fair. If I go to another company will their payout be fair or will they nickel and dime me. Granted, there is no guarantee Geico will continue to be fair with future payouts but at least I have a track record with them. Have heard a lot of horror stories of insurance companies really cheaping out on payouts.

I have PAI, and realize that it’s underwritten by Mike Auto Ins. Mile Auto is not BBB rated, and has lots of complaints, but every auto insurance company has lots of complaints on BBB website, but since the other insurance companies respond to the BBB complaint, they are rated. I had Progressive previously, and they tried to abuse me after someone rear ended me, and the claim was nit resolved even with a demand letter, as I had to file a lawsuit in order to get paid fairly. I have not had a claim with PAI, so I really don’t know what the process is like with them.

Mile Auto is BBB rated F. They are not BBB accredited. Big difference.
