Thumbs up PPF Believer

So Im out to dinner Saturday night and I get that dreaded question, do you own a Red Porsche? can you come with me??

Today I went to my local shop to see how much this was going to cost and lucky PPF came through with shining colors.

So to the people that say PPF is not worth it, I just avoided a carfax diminished value issue and cost of a paint repair.

Like you said, pay now for PPF or pay later for repaint.

That's pretty impressive. Hopefully there was no police report or anything that will show up on a Carfax.

You are not going to have them pay for new PPF installation?

I generally believe PPF is a great thing to do, but lately I've been wondering...

What's the cost of PPF reapplication in this instance versus the cost of just repairing the panel (and doing a chip repair every 5-7 years regardless)? With PPF you're basically prepaying for the repair.

Haven't sat down to do the math yet.

Price quote I got for full car PPF was over $6k, and removal was over $4k, which means that cost to remove old and install new would be over $10k. Ignoring inflation, that’s a $10k bill due in ~10 years, assuming no damage or other issues requiring replacing sooner. This is the main reason I think PPF is a bit of a racket, they want you to get it and then you’ll be coming back to get the PPF replaced, but I guess the appeal is less rock chips or small scrape damage so in theory less paintwork. Personally, not worth it to me to deal with PPF, but my wife wants it on her Taycan, so we have one car with it now.

Beyond the cost comparison, I much prefer seeing the PPF on my front bumper cap and frunk lid than accumulating road rash in unprotected paint.

PPF does work.
When the sun comes up I'll take a pic and post a similar image of my own distracted driving.

PPF is a must! Glad to see that there was no damage to the car itself. PPF did it's job!

After being a Dr Colorchip fan for a long time, and still am, I was really against PPF. The thing is, if your paint gets damaged, good luck finding a place that will make it perfect again. Especially metallic paints. You will always be able to tell it was repainted. I don’t care if Michelangelo did the work, you’ll be able to tell. For that alone, PPF is a good investment. I just do the high impact areas and that has worked well for me. Films have also come a long way, are much clearer and don’t yellow as quickly.
