I generally don’t care what other people think about what I drive because I am not a show off type and never start conversations about my cars. I do have some concern when strangers think that you have a convertible because you are rich. I have heard many stories of people walking by convertibles and throwing in cigarette butts, empty soda water cans, and soda cups just to be jerks. All of my fun cars are convertibles and I would never leave them parked with the top down.

This is legit. I live in Milwaukee area. When I go downtown I will generally park in specific parking garages I know, and have had success, and can park on end aisles, etc etc.
If street parking I try to find the best spot possible. But that's because people are dumb with all cars, not just Porsches! I am picky with parking and will continue to be!

And it def helps to take photos of your parking spot! 😂

I think the opposite. I drove Ferraris for 20 yrs before buying a 911. One of the reaons I quit having Ferraris was I was tired of the attention. I don't notice any attention in the 911 which is great. Dont ruin the enjoyment of the car by thinking about what others think.

It's not like "I need different friends"... I love my friends.

I have car friends, bike/camp friends, guitar-music-jam friends, audio-gear friends, couples' friends, etc... Some overlap, some not.

I would say the people I play music with aren't judgy at all. In fact, they're probably the most modest, down-to-earth, drive-a-piece-of-crap people I know.

They will never buy a porsche -- or any upscale car, for that matter. The experience of owning one isn't on their radar at all. They think my 11-year-old Miata is fancy.

Others, yeah, my car friends, totally get it.

Like if I were going to help at a food shelf or low-income volunteer thing, I certainly wouldn't wear a fancy watch or drive a fancy car. There's a time and a place for all these things. I think we do make choices based on perception. We do care what others think. We wear nice clothes to a wedding. We shower before a date.

Anyway, getting far afield, but just curious how others feel/think about these things.

When I bought my 981 BS, I was nervous about driving it to work because I didn't want attention.

A few Porsches later and now I drive my Shark Blue 992 GT3 down Bourbon Street in New Orleans once a month. I park it right on the street and have a beer while watching people check it out. lol Not kiddin'

P.S. I still track it.

I keep the 911 hidden from my professional life entirely. I don't want clients or coworkers to feel any type of way and I think that's appropriate for my situation.

Personally, however, I don't care in the slightest. I do feel like my group of friends treats me a little differently since I transcended into a 911. Like another poster said, I'm finding out who's happy for me and who isn't.

Take the 911. If you get a sense that your friends care about what car you drive and are jealous, at least you now know you should get rid of them and make some new friends.

Never. In LA 911's are more common than a C8 corvette or BMW M4.

It's just a nice sports car IMO.

BUT if I know I need to valet, I take my 2007 V8 4runner. It's the one car valet's can't mess up.

I have always been cognizant of the crowd that I will be in. Wearing a Rolex with a tee shirt when everyone is wearing Fitbits does give the perception that you are flexing and being pretentious. It serves no purpose otherwise.

Same would apply to the Porsche. You perceive it as a great opportunity to drive 30 miles each way and enjoy the ride, but if the circle of friends don't know you have a Porsche and they are driving 2nd hand Kia's it is no different than the Rolex. It serves no purpose other than iliciting an emotional response (usually negative) in the crowd you are in. If your friends are driving Range Rovers and maxed out Cadillacs or p100 Model X, then I would have no issues with the Porsche.
