Default Swapping 991.1 c2s into 991.1 c2: is the DME the only thing that is needed to changed

Hey gang!

I have a 991.1 and wondering if anyone has successfully swapped a larger displacement 991.1 S engine?

Would the only change, aside from the motor swap be the DME? I would assume the vin would also need to be re-coded on the DME.

I've tried searching for an answer and no luck.

Why would you swap the DME instead of just getting it tuned?

That VIN would be hard coded to the original car.

I would reach out to BGB, they do motor swaps all the time, they would know this.

Ok I'll be that guy

If you just want to put the stock 3.8L 9A1 engine from a 991.1S into a base 991.1, surely it must be cheaper to just sell your base and buy an S, right?

As said, much cheaper to do a "tune". If you were to change engines, the $$$ would be incredibly high, and the re-sale value of the car would plummet.

If you have outgrown the performance of the 991.1 Base, consider a 991.2 Base. Now if you want to get more HP, all you will need to do is swap out the turbos with ones from the 991.2 GTS, apply the requisite 991.2 Factory tune and you'll be in business, or, do an aftermarket tune for even more HP and Tq.

Or if you must have the NA motor, do the RR supercharger.

You guys are assuming he is replacing the motor by choice. Maybe he had an engine failure and came across a 3.8 for a good value?

Appreciate everyone chiming in. It's a long story but I have a front end collision 991.1s. I also have a running 991.1 non-s. Long story on how I have a crashed 991.1s but I do. Now I'm just trying to explore the idea of swapping the motor before doing it.

There's a unique project I am working on that would be very helpful if I can get the 991.1s drivetrain running before in the crashed car before attempting to swap it into a 993 but I'm having problems so I am thinking about putting the 991.1s in my running 991, then pull that drivetrain out into the 993.

well if you have the whole car. My guess is the ecu could be tied to the ignition modules etc. so you may have to migrate those modules over as well
