Why buy a 911?
#16
Once you're in you will probably think "Why did I ever wait so long". That said, really the most important thing you can is to set a goal for yourself. Decide which model you are interested in; look deeply into the costs associated with the marque, especially maintenance and service; then do as much research as you possibly can, on this forum, the net, friends, co-workers, etc. Then drive a couple of units in the model range...once you have as much info on your side that you feel you can make an informed decision, then pull the trigger. Good luck...

100% what this guy said! When I looked at the window sticker for mine, I was like "why'd the original buyer spec out all these crazy leather options (air vents, lol)", but then I had a chance to sit in a minimally spec'd 911 and saw what a drastic difference the non-leather dashboard is vs. leather stitched. I'm not even someone who normally cares about that kind of detail, but yeah, difference is big enough that you probably want the full leather interior if you can.

You'll get more car for your money with a 997.2 or a 991.1. IMO the new turbo 911 base / s models leave alot to be desired. Just buy a real 911 Turbo if you want forced induction. Really dont like the playstation 3 interior of the 992 models. If you want to daily it in traffic get a PDK. I sold my 6MT 997 daily for a lexus LS. I drove my spyder in to work the other day and immediately regretted it. If you want something performance focused, dont sleep on the GT4. Its a 911S motor for 2016 and a 4.0 for 2020+ and from 22+ you can get a pdk.

Besides the legacy image, brand mystique, and general high level of performance, the 911 provides a unique driving experience. Porsche has made it more civilized, but it still has a rear weight bias that makes is feel like nothing else.

Been driving M’s since E36 days. Owned 36, 46, F87 and G80. And owned series cars as well E30 325iS and E92. Currently in line for G87 M2CS. After I sold my G80 1 1/2 years ago, wanted to try a NA .1, and been looking for the right specs, history, and clean title without any damages. 4 weeks ago while looking for a 992T for a friend, I happened to click on 991.1, and now it’s in my garage. It’s got everything I wanted to except for the color. And when I drove it for the first time, i realized there is no substitute! I am not new to Porsche, own there SUV line. And have driven friends and families GT touring 992 and 991.2, GTS 992, GT4RS, and my 991.1S is just as special if not more then those GT cars IMO. I wish I would have gotten on the bandwagon sooner. Spec matters, and your perfect 911 will eventually find you, just have to be patient.

Why a 911?
Long drives. I've driven various vehicles on long trips. No other car has felt so good on a long drive, whether a couple hours or a couple days. Everything is placed just right, everything just FEELS right.
Smiles. Of course I smile when driving my 991 but I get smiles from others I pass, whether it's the kid in his/her yard, the guy panhandling on the median, or other drivers. I see people admiring other cars, other marques, but I don't see the same smiles from them for the Lambos or Maserattis or even Prancing Ponies (although to be fair, I think Tom Selleck in a red Ferrari would still draw huge smiles).

There’s truly nothing like a 911. They are unique in the automotive world, and they have always been that way.
There are cars that are faster than a 911. There are cars that handle better than a 911. There are cars that are as or more reliable than a 911. There are cars that are more practical than a 911.
There is NOT a car that combines the performance, handling, reliability, and practicality of a 911. It’s truly an every day super car, and there’s nothing on the road that looks like a 911.
Once you own one, you’ll understand.

i’ve had close to 50 cars. A 911 is the ONLY car I ever walked out to the garage to just gaze at. Had 4 different M cars over the years…..Enjoy the search and YES, 991.1/2 is the sweet spot…my.02

Heritage/pedigree and Engineering. I also spent a few years in Stuttgart as a wee lad and occasionally seeing a new 911 roll out of the factory from a nearby bus station somewhat scarred me for life.
I have an underappreciated M but I still love seeing it when walking out to it in the garage or a parking lot. Both cars put a smile on my face but sometimes for different reasons (and even though my P-car is missing a pedal....which I am admittedly missing).
I honestly don't care what other people think so long as they don't make their problem my emergency. I didn't bust my @$$ to buy a car for their acceptance; I bought it for my own muppet self to enjoy.
