Default Tail light breakage

Tail lights falling out of 991’s is a known issue. As I just learned with mine, the ‘upgraded’ metal reinforced versions still won’t prevent that plastic screw boss from breaking. Guess the metal bracket did prevent the tail light from falling out completely.

Anyway I got both tail lights out and slathered up with JB Weld and Gorilla Glue.

OEM red tail lights are a stupid $1k each…thats a lot of money for another poorly designed part thats gonna fail again. Has there been a definitive fix/revision for this issue yet?

Definitely still an issue. One of mine slid partially out last month as a result of the plastic housing/screw failure point. Dealer did a goodwill replacement for the one side, but not the other. The brand new one was the same as the old one in terms of hardware. I have clear taillights from new and will likely buy a new one for the unaffected side so they are at least the same age.

Unsolicited editorial: tinted taillights look like they belong on a Altima.

Tinted tail lights are a guaranteed ticket around here.

If anything I might have to go with the clear…not because I necessarily like the look but because they are half price compared to red OEM’s.

Even if OEM?

Coverings on lights here are expressly illegal with, later down in the legalese, an exception if it was a factory thing.
