Default Steering Wheel Inserts Removal (991.2)

Does anyone know how these plastic inserts are removed. They are held in place by small hex nut screws. However when you unscrew them they remain in place, and simply turn freely, as if the insert is somehow also adhered from inside the wheel.

Can they be pried out without opening up the spoke assemblies, or entire wheel?

You have to take the steering wheel off and remove a few screws from the backside. It's fairly easy to do but you will need the right size triple square socket.

Here's a video of the removal process including the inserts

Thanks! I was going to paint them matte black but this is a bit more of a quick cosmetic change i'm willing to do right now.
