Oddly enough when I drove a 981 GT4 last year I found it a bit larger-feeling than my (at the time) 997.2S. I know it's marginally lighter (maybe not much lighter than my 997 was) but I felt as if there was more car around me. Others have reported the same thing. Not sure this would be the same sensation as a Cayman or S but it was totally my impression of the GT4. The 3.8 was identical so the thrust was on par and the GT4 didn't feel overly fast. The 6sp was awesome, though.

I could afford a GT3, chose the 718 for the handling dynamics, smaller size, and I don't need back seats. I tracked a 991.2 GT3 at PECLA and it's stupid fast and capable of course. But I find the 718 more fun.

An MX-5 is nice, I chose an S2000CR instead. If I were to buy another sports car now, to go with my 991.2, it wouldn’t be a 718 though, instead I would chose a GR86 or BRZ tS. Slower and lower horsepower cars, that you can ring out, are actually a lot of fun to drive!

For what some CRs are going for, you could maybe get a used 718 and GR86/BRZ! I think the ND2 Miata is a better fun street car and the s2k a more rewarding track car.

I totally agree. Uninformed folks diss the lack of power in an MX-5, but they've totally forgotten (or never experienced) the advantages and joys of lightness, especially when we're talking about a half ton less weight.

Our sports car stable currently consists of an MX-5, C8, and 991.1 TTS, which replaced our 2019 Cayman 718S. I have some regrets about giving up the 718S w/ Cobb tune, which I enjoyed a lot more in corner carving, but the TTS was a bucket list thing.

However, I get as much joy out the MX-5 ND2 Club as I do out of the other two. The handling feedback it provides a driver far surpasses the others.

I also agree with the shots taken at the "911 snobs."

A lot of great inputs here. Fwiw, I've never understood writing off cool cars—whether Miatas, hot hatches, convertibles, coupes, NA cars, turbo cars, etc etc. There are so many ways to enjoy cars.

Otoh, I don't have a problem with people who know exactly what they like. It took me a while to figure that out, and I'm not sure I'm done…or want to be. I started out in a 914, thinking that the obvious move was to upgrade to a 911 when I could. And I did that, with a great 911 SC coupe. When one had to go, it was the SC. That happened again with a bunch of Porsches, but the 914 stuck around. It isn't for everyone, but I dig it. As for the 991, after 5 years and 57,000 miles, I'd say it's the first "other" Porsche where I can see keeping it for 25~ years and 250,000~ miles. 991 Carreras do so much well—they're fantastic for daily driving, serious grand touring, and tight, fun backroads too.

But if I had to get down to one, it would likely be a 718 of some sort…probably a Cayman GTS 4.0 or a Spyder. As ever, what other people think or what I'm "supposed to" drive would be at the very bottom of my priorities.

That goes both ways. I don't need back seats, but I fully intended to buy a nicely-appointed 991 when the 981S changed my mind.

It's still in the garage... and if it were a 911, some part of me would say "You paid $30K for two back seats you don't need. LOL, dumbass" every time I look at it.

First a 914 2.0 in 1973, then a 74 911 in 76, to keep up on the straights. Then a 78 SC -perfected over 30 yrs- until falling for a Boxster S (and AC). The RS-60 and its successors are for me roadster perfection. I rate them as desirable as my 991.1, the 911 that excites me as the SC used to before I grew old and found AC and PDK.

There is nothing like a 914 a Boxster or a 911! If I had more room I would have a Boxster with a 4.0 (next to the Macan Turbo of course).
