Default Rear Tail Light Illumination

Hello. I have a 2017 C4S and am getting Message Center notices that my right rear and left rear tail lights are out. I'm a new owner and don't know how they're supposed to look. With the car running and lights on auto, the single row light is illuminated across both rear lights and through the center, so one long strip. Flashers will illuminate 4 small LEDs, in a rectangular pattern, on both of the rear lights. Thank you in advance for your help. Frank

Try the brake lights ( they use the 4 small LEDs plus the third light bar higher on the car.).
Its possible that someone removed the rear bumper to do work and didnt get a electrical connector tight enough given both sides are out at the sqame time..

Thank you! Just tried the brake lights and they operate as you described, with the extra 8 total LEDs lighting up plus the high center. While doing that test, the error message still popped up.

Is the battery the original? As the battery fails, electrical gremlins are not uncommon.

I believe the battery to be original. Do you think the rear lights are functioning correctly as described? Is it correct that only the one horizontal "bar" through both rears and center are the only rear lights activated while driving with light switch set to Auto? Thanks!

Battery is going out. I had 6 year-old original battery on battery maintainer. I got the same rear light faults on my targa for a few weeks. I even double checked the lights which were on and worked fine with and without brakes activated. Then more faults popped up including RAS faults. Finally. the car struggled to even start, and I was almost stranded at a restaurant. No issues after I put in a new battery.

Thanks so much and I'll work on getting one. Do you think I can order an appropriate AGM battery at AutoZone?

Thank you! Since I live in the boonies, the nearest Costco is 80 miles away. I'll give AutoZone a try. Thanks again!

My battery took a crap on me while I was out recently in my truck. Not wanting to be stranded, I just bought a duralast agm at autozone and installed it in the parking lot. Expect to pay $90-100 more for a duralast agm, similar warranty.

I just picked up an H7 Duralast Platinum AGM at AutoZone for $250. I hope that fixes my rear tail lights that aren't broken
