Any thoughts on these wheels?

 

Not my cup of tea personally, but I have a feeling you're going to get a really mixed bag in terms of feedback. So, I'll at least take a minute to explain why they aren't my cup of tea. To me, when it comes to wheels (or really anything you to do one of these cars), there are two camps. The first are those of us who don't want to change the car to the extent that a given modification is obviously something that didn't come from Porsche. The second, are the people who don't care whether or not the car looks obviously modified.

I fall into the first camp. If what I'm doing screams "Porsche didn't do this, I did," I won't do it. I apply that philosophy to anything I do, including wheels. If the wheels don't look like wheels that Porsche would conceivably offer on a build sheet for a 911, I won't buy them. So to me, those wheels don't have a Porsche kinda vibe to them, so I'd pass. Having said that, I think a lot also largely depends on their purpose. Are you looking for a set of wheels for a dedicated track or winter setup? Maybe under those circumstances, the aesthetic is a bit less important. May the disposability, value proposition, availability, etc. plays more of a role.

The last bit of my two cents:
If you like them, buy them.

 

I'm not a "Porsche guy", I'm just a car guy. I've owned Mustang 5.0, Camaro SS, and Corvettes, so I'm in the "make it yours" since you paid for it.

I would say that I do try to not put inferior components on something. Like going from Porsche forged wheels to something heavier and cast I personally wouldn't do, but again, I didn't pay for your car. 100% in the "you do you" camp.

I think it's a good looking wheel, however I HATE black wheels on any car. But as others have said, it's your car, do what pleases you.

 

It depends on how the wheels we be used. 1. Winter Tires - Sure, why not. Makes a lot of sense and changing wheels is not that hard and keeps salt off your OEM wheels. 2. Track Use - NFW. 3. Replace OEM - if you want black wheels then buy black OEM wheels. Plenty on eBay and other forums. Why settle for an inferior product? The extra $'s today will be recouped when you want to sell the wheels. These wheels are on eBay for $3K - they are NOT my wheels.



I have had many 911's, Cayenne and a Macan. I always have winter wheels / tires for my 911 - center lock. On the Macan I use all-season tires.

And, OEM wheels will retain their value far far better than an 3rd party option (except perhaps BBS and other high quality manufacturers.

Every car is a project for me, particularly my 911. I don't want to see the same car anywhere. While that particular wheel isn't my cup of tea, I applaud your interest in individuality!. Take your time on the internet as there are hundreds of different wheel offerings.

 

I'd need to see them on a car but im not a big fan from the pictures you posted.

Will likely sell them somewhere and try to go back to Pcar spec... It was perfect the way Porsche designed it!

 

If they had a dish/lip on them then I'd like them and depends on what color (lighter - better) car they are going on, otherwise , meh ... pedestrian

 

I don't see anything wrong with those wheels, they are basic and simple. However, for some reason I think 911's look good with more complicated wheel designs.

I don't own a set of OEM wheels for my car. It was a trade in at a dealership and was traded in with a set of cheap TireRack wheels with winter tires. I did track down the OEM wheels that were sitting in storage at a tire shop. The place there tracked down the previous owner and tried to broker a deal. Previous owner forgot about them but suddenly was ultra proud of them. Gave me a ridiculous price, I assume he did the '1million dollars' Dr Evil impersonation when he said it. I gave him my number on what those cliche 991, covered wagon wheel looking Carrera Classics were worth to me. Would have been nice to reunite the car with the original wheels but it was obvious we weren't going to find any common ground. I'll just keep looking for a set of Sport Technos.

 

For some reason AMG Mercedes comes to mind......

 

 

Before more folks bash those poor wheels, they’ve been listed in the classifieds section by people and they’ve been used for auto cross etc - those are some very light wheels - forged, but the cheaper forging process. Looks are subjective (I too don’t like them much), but for the right function they might be okay. Btw these are sold on TireRack too 😁

 

I am impartial to them, but probably b/c I have and have had various AMG cars. They would look better on an older C63 than a 911, but would be a great option for a winter wheel/autocross wheel.
