Hi all, I'm new to the Porsche world and just bought my very first, a 2013 911 S. It has the standard audio package and it is a bit lackluster in audio quality. I just installed CarPlay in to the PCM and happy enough with the stereo part of it but want some better sound. Can I simply replace the speakers without having to add an amp? If so what speakers are plug in play? I thought I read something about being 2 ohms and having special connectors.
Any help is appreciated! Not looking to shake the cabin just want some better sound.
@imattvtx there are a few threads in the 991 forum here if you search for "aftermarket speakers" or "speaker upgrade" where rennlisters have done some pretty gnarly stuff that might give you some ideas. you might also want to check out the AV forum over here, too ---> https://rennlist.com/forums/audio-and-video-forum-216/
Thanks for that, everything I keep finding are pretty large upgrades. I haven't found any that are only swapping the speakers and keeping their PCM, that's what I'm interested in. I'll keep looking.
Just swapping speakers, especially with the bose system (not sure about the other sound systems) is a tough call because the bose system has non standard impedances that most aftermarket speaker manufactures DO NOT use and the proprietary equalization the BOSE amp uses are tuned for their specific speaker design and location in the car, there is a very good chance you could make the car sound worst than the OEM setup. That's why most people replace the OEM amplifier with an aftermarket one and use DSP to re-tune their cars sound signature with the new amp and speakers. outside of just the tweeter upgrade and adding a powered sub, it's really all or nothing with these cars. Keeping the stock PCM is very doable and most have, even with full stereo buildouts. Lots of threads here on how people go about sound upgrades in their cars.
