Default PDK Neutral selection via paddles: observations

I found this blurb in my owner’s manual. Gave it a try, getting back into gear is not so straightforward. This is a 991.2… not sure if this works on a 991.1

I found myself at a stop light and not able to go when light turned green.

Here are my observations:
you can pull either paddle to switch back into whichever gear is appropriate, WHILE moving. The Pdk seems to go to the speed appropriate gear.

IF, you are stationary … you must press the brake, then pull paddle, without the brake applied it will not go back into gear.

just sharing as the part about braking/stationary is not in the owners manual.

Anyone else seen similar behavior?

I don't use the paddles for neutral just pop the shift lever but the behavior is the same. The transmission will not go back into drive unless the car stationary and your foot is pressing down the brake.

That is not always the case ... if you do the dual-paddle pull for N ... and then pull again to re-engage while still moving, it does go back into gear (what seems to be the speed appropriate gear)... ie, highway off-ramp, pull for N ... coast down to 5 mph, pull a paddle you end up in 3rd gear or something.

YES! I literally did this yesterday stopped at a left hand turn lane/light. Cars were flying by on the right and I was imagining some idiot smacking me from behind and put the car into neutral with the paddles. When the light turned green I took my foot off the brake and engaged the right paddle to no effect, then put my foot on the brake and engaged the right paddle and it worked. I've done the "while moving" shifting into neutral and back again, but never stationary apparantly.

Yeah, it's a liability thing.

But also why are you shifting to neutral? Just leave it in gear.

I move the shifter from drive to neutral when I know that I'm stuck at a light for 2 minutes. any longer and I just shut it off. don't use AS/S.

Why wouldn't you just step on the brake harder and let the car do the braking for you while the car's stationary?
