I don't think silicone would be a long-lasting lube.
I would try a spray lithium grease, or penetrating oil.
There are also spray garage door lubes with graphite that I think would also work well.

I tried the T-9 spray on my driver side door 3 days ago. I cleaned the existing plastic stop strap first with blue shop towel and isopropyl alcohol to remove the lithium I had tried.
used the same towel as a backstop while I sprayed the strap … left the door wide open for a few minutes than open/close a few cycles,, it helped, but not gone .. over the last 3 days it has gotten incrementally better, until today I noticed when opening … literally no sound.
So I am a fan of the T-9 spray for this application, not sure what else I might use it for though.

Glad it worked. You can use it for anything that needs lubrication. I use it on locks, window hardware my spring HAS threads, etc.
On the door spray all hinges and onto the strape that goes into the door.
