when i am tempted to look for a new 911 i keep going back to a couple of things
1. the interior layout; love the gauges as well as being able to control the sound system, seater heaters climate control easily
2. mine is a C2 and just like the narrower body...know this is personal but no choice with 992

1. Agreed. The gauge interface is way more '911' than what comes in a 992 imo. I'm sure the tech and features are great, but it just doesn't look like a 911 cockpit to me.
2. While I do like a wide body 991.2, I also agree the 992 is just too bubbly.
I wish I had taken a photo, but there was a 991.2 and 992 parked next to each other at cars and coffee this past weekend, and the size difference while overall marginal, is still noticeable. 991.2 is not small 911 either, but he 992 is certainly bigger.

the .2 Generations always looks better than the .1...
I hold judgement on the 992 until the .2 Gen..
Also the .1 992 Gen has the same engine... and I'm not a fan all the Black cheap shiny plastic...
Its also majorly overpriced, you can get a c8 Z06 for price of a GTS!

In years to come I think the 991 interior will be recognized as the best 911 interior. The interplay between physical controls and screen integration is just right. I think we are going to look back on the over-screened interiors of the newest generation of cars (not just 992) and laugh at how poorly integrated they are into the overall design, and kick ourselves for falling for the ruse that screens are better than well thought out buttons. That said, the purposeful elegance of the first long hood 911 interiors may have started things at the peak. While 996 is probably the low point, but having owned one I never thought it was quite as bad as it was made out to be.

for the PDK guys, have there been any mock ups or spy photos of the interior of the 992.2? i wonder if they will do away with the electric razor shifter. that's a major turn off for me, it means that you can ONLY use paddles to shift. dumb.

I was about to ask about that. I have a 991.1 GTS w/PDK which I AX. When I bought the car, I insisted on paddles, but I find that in certain AX situations, with your arms crossed up, it is easier for me to just bang an up or downshift with the shifter. Reaching the paddles can be awkward. Taking that away is a real non-starter for me.

I am a 992 owner (2022, way before the price increases to where they are now) and am looking for a 991, so maybe this is a different angle.
I won't give up my 992 as it is my first P-Car and 911, however want to have a more analog experience with a 911 and the narrow body, so am sniffing around some 991.2s as we speak.
I don't use half the technology in the 992 and do love the wide body look (or bubbly as described above). To me, the 991 interior looks very dated (which is fine with me) and as mentioned above, the gauge cluster is truer to the heritage and lineage.
They both have their ads and disads.

I went from 992.1 to 991.2. I put over 35k miles on my 992C4S in 2 1/2 years, but I prefer my CPO 991.2 Targa.
I think that Porsche lost something when they went to the 992. It just feels like the prior generation has more character and the cars feel smaller.
As for waiting for the 992.2…

As for waiting for the 992.2…
- The 992.2 gets an all digital dash. That beautiful, classy, and heritage analog tach in the 992.1 is going away.
- The PDK gear selector “shaver” really doesn’t matter. You can’t change gears with it while you’re driving — you just touch it when you start off or park it. It is carried forward for the 992.2.
- The 992 was the first water cooled 911 that was actually heavier than its predecessor. My 991.2 Targa is lighter than my 992 C4S — think about that. With the addition of hybrid power for the 992.2, it’s only getting heavier.
- Prices just keep climbing. I paid below MSRP in 2019 for my 992C4S. The same car today at MSRP, without ADM, increased in price by more than $22k. With ADM, you’re looking at north of $30k or more.

Enjoy the 992 C2S refinement and composure (definitely a clear generational improvement from both 991 generations), dislike the 992 GT3 (which makes me unwell with motion sickness at low speeds).
- PDLS+ Matrix LED in the 992 (unfortunately US owners miss out) is spectacularly beautiful at night, a dazzling lightshow with all the funky movements and shifting patterns on a winding road.
- Can't get used to the new 992 dash and instrument cluster layout, either go full digital or all dials (like 991s), the half dial, half digital simply looks crap.
- Glad the 992.2 instrument is going full digital, that's one great advantage carried over from the Taycan.
- Widebodies are nice but the need for rear side scoops is high, for that a Turbo / RS are the only ones that "look" properly right.
- No gripes on the Braun shaver, pedal shifting is occasionally fun and more than sufficient for most use cases.
- Detest the 992 door handles, unless you own a RS, this is a massive stupidity step back.
For that, I love my 991 3RS and have no desire to "upgrade".
