Default Water pump leak?

Is the white crusted material on that pipe, dried coolant? Is this a sign of a water pump leak? Expressed this concern to the Porsche dealer and they told me there is no leak

Did they pressure test the cooling system? 991.2 gen cars have a known water pump leaking issue. There is a TSB regarding it. Mine was replaced under warranty in 2022. ('17 C2)

I was told they checked the cooling system, but they didn't specifically say if they did a pressure test.

Sure looks like every case of water pump failure shared on this forum.

Definitely keep on eye on it.

I had a similar experience with exactly the same amount of residue. Dealer initially wouldn't confirm/admit it was from the water pump, but did wipe it off and said to monitor it. I sent him a photo of the freshly dried coolant the next day, and he booked it in for a replacement.

It seems some dealers are reluctant to fix things first time around. I had to go back twice before they replaced the dynamic engine mounts too, with them first telling me the clunk was a loose airbox.

Thanks, this is really helpful. Just made an appointment to have them look at it again.

Doesn't the dried up coolant mean it's leaking?

The water pump leak generally exhibits more dried material than what I see. Also, the dried material will have a pinkish tint (the color of the antifreeze). Keep an eye on it. If you see pinkish deposits on the garage floor under the car coming from that area, it will definitely be the water pump leaking.

I would get that replaced asapOne of my dealers did the same thing... "Well it isn't leaking FAST enough." When I asked at what flow rate does Porsche usa consider a leak a leak they decided to call back and agree to replace. I mentioned the leak extending beyond that and they assured me only the pump was leaking.

2 months later I took it to another dealer as the coolant level was still low (but no active leak) and they replaced the entire pump again and changed out the guides. I was surprised they did that much work after only 2 months. When asked why there was little to no meaningful response.

Received a letter from PCNA in December about them extending the warranty on "coolant pump" and "valve-block" (eek!!) on certain 2017-2018 cars to ten years from original in-service date. It didn't reference anything about a recall or covered proactive repairs, but would agree to get a second opinion from a reputable dealer and keep an eye on things! Email customersupport@porsche.com with your VIN and I bet they can tell you if your car is covered under this.

Thanks everyone. I did receive that bulletin so my car is covered. It’s also CPO so I’m not concerned. Just want to get it fixed if it is indeed leaking.
