I have the V1 Gen2. Yes, you need the app running, but I don't mind. In fact, I prefer to change the settings via the app instead of fiddling with the detector itself. Plus it communicates through the car speakers. As others have pointed out, best to be combined with an app like Waze via Carplay.

I have the new version....took it for several long (300 miles) interstate test rides in CA. Discovered the WAZE was as good, or better in the detection of speed traps. Now I don't even take the Valentine 1 on the road with me, rely on WAZE running on my iPhone.

The Unidens R4-R8 are just fabulous units with amazing range and arrows are there if needed on R7 & R8. I use an R4 and it is the best unit I have ever had.

I suggest you use both. You just should not rely on only one. Each has its own benefit, and the more benefits you have the better. For example, you may be the first one on the road that passes a LEO and Waze will not pick that up but your RD will and then you can report it so others know.

Agree - Waze is a complimentary tool. not stand alone. Its value depends on how many other users are on the road. Works great on freeways, not so much once you get into the country side, e.g. driving in the mountains.

Excellent choice! I have the R7, no regerts! Finds Walgreens in a jif.. Need to adjust the settings a bit, but works great.

Found this: https://www.vortexradar.com/2019/04/...adar-detector/

May just need some tweaking to your liking.

Thanks.

Great seller @Porsche0911. Fast shipping, sent tracking # immediately.

Just used the V1 Gen 2 for a 300 mile drive.
Worked perfectly, picked up a cop flying up from behind before i could see him.

Also picked up a nice over the hill Ka band, and watched the guy ahead if me with some sort of detector get nabbed as his didnt go off until too late. .

Paid for itself first time out.

Noticeably quieter than the Gen 1 I had in the car. Will definitely upgrade one of my other Gen 1 to the Gen 2.

If you have an android phone then the v1g2 with jbv1 and waze is all free and could save you jail time. The jbv1 app in standalone mode with my r3 now on a 2 wheel machine is also wonderful. There was an update that made the v1g2 useless but since another update it is ok. So don't jump quickly on updates. The local leo's love running in the bsm band so skill imo is needed to distinguish between. In the past the vortex guy said the v1g2 with jbv1 could not be beat. At that time the r7 had issues but this cat and mouse game of radar vs detector never ends. $$$ I should send some money to John boy, (creator of jbv1). Many ticket free miles in 911's. Thank God... Jbv1 can take you in the weeds but works great with basic settings. I believe there is a 200 page pdf for jbv1 operation, if you like that sort of thing.

Already run JBV1.

Just drove home, and the V1 picked up a cop running up from behind with so much distance I didn't believe it.

On the roads I run the cops love speeding up from behind running forward facing radar, or drive on traffic with rear facing radar.

I have been running V1 detectors for 20+ years and am comfortable with them. I have tried others but come back to the V1.

No doubt the R7 is amazing, and have friends that swear by it.

Still waiting for the never arriving Radenso.

I have 3 V1s, have not used them in years. Don't see the point. Between Waze and paying attention I have not received a ticket in 10+ years. Frankly I'd rather pay the ticket than listen to the damn thing go off all the time which is why I stopped using them in the first place. Not interesting in screwing around with an app to block this or that, if the thing won't work on it's own I'll leave it at home.
